Interior Health is looking for a permanent full time Lead, Indigenous Strategy & Accountability to join the Indigenous Partnerships team. The position will lead and support initiatives aimed at improving transitions in care and discharge planning for Indigenous clients. Supporting key Networks (i.e. Cancer Care Network, Maternal Child, etc) to ensure Indigenous perspectives, engagement and objectives are embedded in network planning and service delivery.

The worksite location for this position is flexible and can be located anywhere within the Interior Health region.

How will you create an impact?

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Lead is responsible and accountable for ensuring the design and implementation of Interior Health (IH) and Indigenous partner joint priorities and initiatives are cultural safety, accessible and appropriate. The incumbent will lead implementation of key tactics within the IH Indigenous Health & Wellness Strategy (IHWS) by collaborating with key IH Vice President (VP) portfolios and engaging with Indigenous partners (First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), First Nations, Métis Nation BC (MNBC), and urban Indigenous service providers). Crucial to the success of the position is the ability to develop strong working relationships with IH leaders and Indigenous partners to lead change initiatives to improve health outcomes for Indigenous people in the interior.

As a member of the Indigenous Partnerships Strategy & Accountability team, the Lead is responsible for collaborating with several IH Vice President (VP) leadership teams to advance key initiatives and/or support priority populations to implement the IH IHWS. The Lead will project manage and support several VP portfolios to ensure IH programs, services and initiatives are culturally safe and accessible, assuring Indigenous perspectives are at the forefront of program planning and service delivery. The Lead will be an integral part of advancing the cross organizational accountability for Indigenous Health within IH.

In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

What will you work on:

•Collaborates with internal IH VP leadership teams to lead, support and project manage key initiatives to implement the IH IHWS.
•Leads the project design and planning of key initiatives within the scope of assigned IH VP Portfolios to advance the implementation of the IH IHWS.
•Leads and supports the implementation of recommendations within pivotal reports (i.e., In Plain Sight, Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls).
•Supports key projects to ensure meaningful Indigenous engagement informs program planning, service delivery and project implementation.
•Empowers IH leaders to advance support for initiatives aimed at improving Indigenous health outcomes and leadership’s understanding of the Indigenous worldview to enable systems transformation within IH.
•Completes status reports for key activities to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
•Attends key internal VP leadership committees and external Indigenous joint tables including the Partnership Accord Leadership Table, Métis Nation-IH Leadership Table, and IH-Nation Letter of Understanding Joint Committees.
•Partners with the Indigenous Partnerships Engagement team and various Indigenous partner groups (e.g., FNHA, Interior region First Nations and First Nation communities, MNBC and Métis Chartered Communities, Urban Indigenous health service organizations and Friendship Centres, Indigenous patient partners and Patient Voices Network) to ensure services, programs and projects are culturally safe, accessible, and relevant for Indigenous peoples.
•Ensures coordination and integration of services with other IH programs and identifies opportunities for enhancement that will improve service delivery to clients/communities within the assigned area of responsibility.
•Creates a work environment that supports a climate of mutual respect, open communication, teamwork, collaboration, shared learning, innovation, and cultural and psychological safety.
•Demonstrates the ability to be a self-starter and anticipate what needs to be completed to advance team goals.
•Promotes a spirit of inquiry and innovation within the delivery of services with a quality improvement and change management approach.
