We are looking for a Technical Officer, Building Acoustics to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The incumbent will be a member of a multidisciplinary team that designs, fabricates, documents and tests the sound transmission for full-scale building assemblies, in support of NRC’s research and development objectives and contracts.

Under the functional supervision of a Project Manager (who may be a Research Officer or a more senior Technical Officer), the incumbent will be required to undertake the construction and the testing of full-scale experimental test assemblies; much of this work will be performed with little or no direct supervision. The incumbent will be expected to document the construction details. These responsibilities require a broad range of mechanical/construction skills and the application of basic technical knowledge of acoustical testing techniques and instrumentation. The incumbent will on occasion work as part of a team consisting either of other Technical Officers, or outside contractors retained for a specific task.

In addition to fabricating specimens, the incumbent will be expected to perform acoustical tests in accordance with quality assurance procedures for each of the acoustical facilities.

Education

Diploma or degree in a construction related field such as carpentry or building construction technology, or other discipline related to the position.

An equivalent combination of work related experience, training and education may be considered.

Experience

Experience in the use of proper construction practices conforming to applicable building codes and application guidelines.
Experience in following quality assurance procedures.
Experience and safety training in the operation of forklift equipment and overhead cranes would be considered an asset.
Experience operating computerized measurement systems in a laboratory setting would be considered an asset.
Experience with acoustical measurements would be considered an asset.

Technical Competencies

Advanced knowledge of standard construction practices for building test assemblies.
Solid knowledge and expertise to capture pertinent aspects of specimen construction details are required.
Ability to use general office software products.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices required to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Compensation

From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum.
