Job Summary:  The Engineering Outreach and Community Engagement Coordinator leads the creation and implementation of high-quality K-12 programs and offers support to teachers through teacher-focused initiatives. Collaborating closely with Engineering Outreach Instructors, the Coordinator ensures effective program delivery via established school board and community partnerships. Additionally, the Coordinator actively seeks to forge new partnerships with community groups and organizations that share similar values.

Nature of work: 
Reporting to the Engineering Outreach Manager, the Coordinator is a high-energy leader that has an interest in STEM, tinkering, making, and designing.

Responsibilities/accountabilities: 

Develop and deliver content designed to inspire youth to pursue careers in STEM fields. Foster partnership relationships with organizations and community groups that focus on opportunities for underrepresented youth. Collaborate to deliver programming for elementary and secondary school audiences, ensuring alignment with the Ontario curriculum. Work closely with school boards to develop a strategy for providing youth with opportunities within STEM through engineering outreach programs, and create awareness about diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. Support teacher programs as required, ensuring STEM-focused content is integrated into classrooms. Stay up-to-date with research and new technologies that could have an impact on engineering outreach programs. Act as the primary liaison between Engineering Outreach and community organizations to foster mutually beneficial relationships. Develop and use tools to assess success of program activities. Assessment may be used to share success with other programs through papers and conferences. Collaborate with local businesses, nonprofits, and educational institutions to create and enhance STEM opportunities for youth. Ensure the safety of all program participants. Train and supervise Engineering Outreach Instructors (High School and Undergraduate students) and volunteers to deliver programs. Ensure consistent communication with community partners to maintain and strengthen partnerships. Evaluate community engagement activities and partnerships to measure impact and inform future initiatives. Engage with school boards, school administrators, and teachers in actively promoting engineering outreach programs and to identify the needs of the audience. Prepare and deliver reports, maintain accurate records of participants, and manage data related to K-12 engineering outreach events, and any related programs. Develop partnerships with new community partners and organizations. Provide support to other Engineering Outreach programs, as needed.

Required Skills: 

Attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.
Has a valid Class G driver’s license.
Has an aptitude for industrial design, engineering, computer programming, tinkering, building, and a passion for STEM subjects. Is energized by talking to the public, comfortable speaking in English. Serve as a positive role model for youth with all programs. Can create and maintain an inclusive and safe space for ALL youth. Has a strong work ethic, and a demonstrated ability to be professional and punctual. Is confident using Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), Google Tools, Maker Tools (3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Arduino, etc), basic programming languages (Python, C, C++, HTML), and updating social media channels. Thinks critically and solves problems creatively and efficiently Can effectively communicate technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders. Must have a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check and valid First Aid and CPR-C. Able to lift and move objects as heavy as 50 lbs. Must be willing to ensure that all of vaccines are up to date as per the federal vaccination guide for child care workers.

Required Education: 

Must have a 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, a STEM field, or Education. An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered.

Required Experience: 

1-3 years experience in an academic environment, including knowledge of university policies and procedures
Has experience engaging youth in educational or recreational experiences.
Previous experience with Actua or Actua Network Member is considered an asset.
Must be able to deliver educational programs in a classroom environment in English. (Ability to speak French and/or an Indigenous language is an asset.) An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered.
