Housekeeping Manager

Buffalo Mountain Lodge, Banff AB Housekeeping Primary Function

The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring exceptional cleanliness and orderliness in guest rooms and public areas of the lodge. This is a hands-on leadership role that involves actively participating in daily operations while managing the housekeeping team, coordinating activities, and ensuring that guest requests are addressed with promptness and courtesy. The Housekeeping Manager is expected to lead by example, working alongside their team to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

Reports to General Manager / Assistant General Manager Hours As required Duties & Responsibilities Team Management and DevelopmentOnboard, train and supervise all housekeeping staffEnsure ongoing training and knowledge of cleaning supplies and techniquesSchedule and evaluate all housekeeping staffFoster positive employee relations through clear communication and engagementConduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members Quality Control and StandardsSet and uphold quality control policies, best practices, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Conduct daily inspections to ensure standards are consistently metCreate and update daily checklists for housekeepers, housemen, and supervisorsResolve guest complaints and issues professionally and promptly Operational ManagementLiaise between housekeeping, front desk, and maintenance teamsEnsure compliance with legislation, health & safety regulations, and company policiesManage linen and cleaning/amenities inventoriesConduct monthly ordering of supplies and maintain accurate inventory recordsEnsure all rooms are ready by check in timeKeep labor costs and other related expenses within budgeted goalsMaintain an accurate log of all lost & found itemsReport all maintenance defects in rooms and public areas to Maintenance Administrative ResponsibilitiesAttend required meetingsComplete and submit payroll every second SundayHandle administrative paperworkCreate weekly schedules for staffDevelop monthly extra duties for housekeepers, housepersons & supervisors Continuous ImprovementRegularly review and update cleaning procedures and productsImplement eco-friendly practices where possibleStay informed about industry trends and best practices Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in housekeeping management, preferably in a luxury hotel or resort setting Proven track record of maintaining high cleanliness standards and positive guest feedback In-depth knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in the hospitality industry Excellent leadership and team management skills Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office and property management systems Exceptional attention to detail Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays Ability to stand for extended periods and walk throughout the property
