Job Summary

We are seeking a Director, Purchasing, with the passion for driving a transformation of the Purchasing function. The role is responsible for the operations of our North American Purchasing function, totaling $1B in operational spend, covering resin, additives, components, packaging, indirect & corporate goods and services, IT, and minor capex. They will play a crucial role in the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of Purchasing activities in the USA and Canada and oversee a team of 40 people and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders in plants, distribution denters, and corporate offices to ensure the efficient and cost-effective Purchasing activities in the P2P chain.

This role will contribute to the business by ensuring that the Purchasing function is designed and operating efficiently to support business growth of double digit CAGR; to deliver top quartile performance in key metric areas such as Supplier Performance, Serving the Users and Commercial Due-diligence; and to leverage global and regional strategic sourcing capability.

We are looking for a professional who will lead, develop, and implement Purchasing excellence strategies and initiatives covering all areas including buying, negotiations, receiving, supplier management, compliance control, etc. to support the company’s growth. The successful candidate will develop best in class Purchasing operations and people capability, that result in Purchasing excellence and deliver highest internal control.


Principal Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of North American Purchasing Operations including requisition management, PO management, T&C negotiations, supplier delivery, consignment (interim) warehouses, receiving, supplier management, etc.

Manage Direct and Indirect Purchasing related to Manufacturing, Distribution, corporate functions, central services and vendor creation/management - covering resin, additives, components, packaging, indirect & corporate goods and services, IT and minor capex. Total portfolio value is $1.2billion.

Lead a team of approximately 40 team members, distributed across Canada and the USA. Optimize the Purchasing structure for the USA and Canada, aligned with the company's overall business objectives.

In collaboration with Finance, manage internal control risks in Purchasing operations and implement mitigation strategies.

Monitor and analyze Purchasing performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Establish, maintain, and govern monthly KPI score carding reviews, that celebrate success, identify gaps, and establish corrective action as well as conduct Quarterly Business Reviews and provide governance on operational performance of strategic suppliers.

Oversee integration of acquired companies’ Purchasing operations.

Provide visionary leadership to the Purchasing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability, deploy CI Program.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 10+ years in leading Purchasing, Sourcing and/or Direct-Indirect Goods and Services.

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, or engineering.

Strong understanding of commercial and technical aspects of Purchasing, including regulatory requirements, import/export rules, global trade, etc.

Experience with SAP and other Purchasing technology platforms.

Strong overall Purchasing and contract negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to lead and build collaborative partnerships with suppliers.

Strong people management experience, a leader with heart and kindness, while setting high expectations and driving for results.

Automotive, Industrial or FMCG products Purchasing management experience with global and North American based organizations

Deep supplier market experiences related to discrete manufacturing and distribution operations.

Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, from managers to executives. Able to adapt style to the audience.

Demonstrated success in building collaborative working relationships with internal supply chain functions, external suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Able to understand and apply data-based solutions, using best in class analytics/data science methods.

Experience in transforming work processes with proven success in engaging operational teams through the journey.

Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence outside your span of control.

Demonstrated commercial acumen.
