CollingwoodGeneral and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is an 84 bed hospital located inCollingwood, Ontario (approximately 90 minutes north of Toronto) that servesmore than 74,000 permanent residents and 3.5 Million annual visitors to thecommunities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and the Blue Mountains.CGMH is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic servicesincluding lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatientunits (medicine and surgery). In addition, CGMH also provides care in specialtyareas including obstetrics, orthopaedics, intensive care and surgery. TheHospital also provides out patient care including dialysis and a wide range ofclinics including mental health and rehabilitation services. The Opportunity:

Anessential member of the CGMH team and Health Information Systems, as an expertin Health Information Management and leader in coding and abstracting withknowledge of PHIPA and release of information. Please note that this full-time position is specifically for inpatient coding (DAD).

Qualifications:

Graduate of an approvedHealth Information Management Program. Experience in MeditechExpanse is required Must be a member ingood standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association(CHIMA) and Certified with the Canadian College of Health InformationManagement (CCHIM) 3 years’ experiencecoding/abstracting with DAD Previous experienceworking in Release of Information would be considered an asset. In-depth knowledge ofCIHI’s Guidelines/Principles, MED2020 Abstracting System and Microsoft OfficeApplications Must strive tocontinuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff,physicians, and volunteers Must adhere to theduties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act Must have an ability toeffectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in orderto provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families.Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset. Must have basiccomputer skills Must be dedicated toprofessional growth & development Must be able to performall bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physicaldemands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc. Must have demonstratedexcellent attendance/performance record

Preferred:

Excellent organizationand prioritization skills Ability to workindependently and effectively communicate with other members of the health careteam HealthInformation Management preferred Knowledge of MeditechClient/Server is strongly desired Experience in projectmanagement, and management of human and financial resources.  Experience andknowledge relevant to information privacy laws, release of information andaccess laws is considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Using CIHI Guidelinesand Principles, Ontario MOH guidelines, as well as hospital policies andprocedures code and abstract DAD and NACRS charts Use the CMG and CACSgrouping/assignment methodology to ensure data collection meets the standardsmet by the hospital, LHIN or Province Ensuring data qualityand accuracy through data validation processes. Generates reports and queries,then examines the results to identify discrepancies in the MED2020 system toguarantee accurate data Communicate withphysicians, nurses and other clinical staff on documentation issues that relateto specificity and accuracy of coding Meet workload standardsas required for the specific HIM assignment Keep abreast withchanges in coding practices, CIHI Guidelines/Principles and Hospital Policiesand Procedures. Participate in CodingQuality Improvement Workshops, Seminars, and Teleconferences May provide occasionalrelief for release of information for non-circle of care requests
