An opening exists in the Education and Publishing Divisions for the position of Education/ Publishing Intern reporting to the Director of Education Publishing & the Publishing Project Manager

Work Location: This position works out of our Toronto downtown office located at 604 King St. West. Expectation is that the office is this person’s primary work location, with flexibility for some days at home

Role Summary

The Education & Publishing intern will work cross functionally with both the Education and Publishing divisions. The intern will work closely with the Director of Education Publishing as well as the Publishing Project Manager to complete various administrative and editorial work. These tasks include metadata maintenance, creative editorial work, development and tracking of student and teacher print and digital content.

Primary Responsibilities

PUBLISHING:

Assisting the Publishing Project Manager with various tasks such as: updating of Master Data Management files for frontlist and backlist titles, completing the Access Copyright Backlist Cleanup, the development of an annual report process for Access Copyright and inventorying and organizing Publishing Archive Library and Lending Library Assisting Designers and the Digital Asset Management team with the collection and archiving of print-ready files of the original print and reprints to ensure easy access to the most recent versions. Assisting the Editorial Assistant with content creation for web projects; award submissions; author and affiliate mailings; and with distribution of in-house copies Assisting Editors by reviewing solicited and unsolicited manuscripts, providing editors with reader responses to these submissions and sending responses to the authors Attending production and editorial meetings as well as publishing/marketing meetings

EDUCATION:

Assisting with various developmental tasks such as reviewing manuscript, updating tracking charts, checking editorial and design changes, photo research, production checks Assisting with the maintenance of product support websites (reviewing and updating links, adding new content etc.) Assisting with archiving of print ready files Attending publishing, production, and product specific meetings Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Interest in children’s books, authors and media Personal values that are aligned with Scholastic’s Credo, including a demonstrated understanding of the importance of broadening representation of marginalized communities within the publishing industry Exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to multitask and work well in a deadline-driven environment Excellent communication skills, good creative writing skills, an eye for detail and a professional attitude Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams), and Google Suite (Google Slides, Drive) Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign are strong assets Working knowledge of Wordpress an asset Some knowledge or metadata is an asset
