Job Description

The Level III Water and Wastewater Operator provides essential services to the residents of Merritt by ensuring the safe and environmentally conscious handling of water and wastewater.

Based out of Merritt’s Wastewater Treatment Centre, the incumbent, under the guidance and leadership of the Chief Plant Operator, participates in the safe operation and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems to deliver clean, potable, and safe water to residents of Merritt.

Level III Water and Wastewater Operators ensure operations comply with the City’s expectations and the Federal and Provincial environmental standards and regulations. Performing highly skilled operational and maintenance work of a complex nature such as inspecting equipment, servicing equipment, carrying out preventative maintenance and ensuring records are accurate and up to date.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with the team, supporting the overall operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Wastewater Collection System, Water Treatment System, Water Distribution System. Operators are also required to attend some after-hour emergencies, work weekends within a rotating schedule, and be available to work on call on a rotating schedule.

This position requires a 40-hour work week.


Qualifications

  • Level III EOCP Certification in Municipal Wastewater Collection
  • Level III EOCP Certification in Water Treatment
  • Level III EOCP Certification in Water Distribution
  • Level III EOCP Certification in Wastewater Treatment
  • Chlorine Handling Certification (BCWWA/EOCP)
  • 2 years experience in wastewater collection and water treatment   
  • 4 years experience in water distribution and wastewater treatment
  • Proficient computer skills, including using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) SCADA System and HMI System
  • Air brake endorsement is required
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • Confined Space Certification
  • Level II EOCP Certified applicants’ workings towards Level III hours and certification will be considered (with commensurate rate of pay based on experience and certification in accordance with CUPE 900 Collective Agreement).

A valid BC driver's license and satisfactory driving record are essential. In addition, for new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.



Additional Information
