Job Summary

The City of Merritt is seeking a highly skilled Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Level 2) to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and environmentally conscious handling of water and wastewater.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment systems to deliver clean, potable water to residents.
  • Perform highly skilled operational and maintenance work, including inspecting equipment, servicing equipment, and carrying out preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records and compliance with Federal and Provincial environmental standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the team to support the overall operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Wastewater Collection System, Water Treatment System, and Water Distribution System.
  • Attend after-hour emergencies, work weekends, and be available to work on call on a rotating schedule.
Requirements
  • A safety-first attitude with ability to contribute to a culture of safety and customer service excellence.
  • Integrates knowledge with work duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications.
  • Spatial ability, manual dexterity, and mechanical ability.
  • Proficient computer skills, including using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), SCADA System, and HMI System.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the position.
  • 2 years experience in wastewater collection and water treatment.
  • 2 years experience in water distribution and wastewater treatment.
  • Air brake endorsement.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Confined Space Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Level II EOCP Certification in Municipal Wastewater Collection, Water Treatment, Water Distribution, or Wastewater Treatment.
  • Chlorine Handling Certification (BCWWA/EOCP).
