The Utilities department ofthe Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualifiedindividuals to apply for the position of Utilities Equipment Operator 3.Reporting to the Equipment Foreperson, this position offers 76.5 hoursbi-weekly starting as soon as possible.
The work of this classinvolves the safe and efficient operation, servicing and minor maintenanceprimarily related to the water distribution, water treatment, wastewatercollection and wastewater treatment infrastructure managed by the UtilitiesGroup and in accordance with Federal, Provincial and municipal regulations andstandards. The work is focused on heavymobile construction and maintenance equipment such as hydraulic backhoes,front-end loaders, track and rubber tire excavators, single axle dump trucksand sewer vactor/jetrodding truck (tandem axle) and skilled pipelaying.
Candidates will possess agrade 12 diploma supplemented by considerable directly related experience inheavy equipment operation. EOCP certification in Water Distribution 1 and WastewaterCollection 1 is desirable. An equivalent combination of training and experiencemay be considered. Candidates must have sound knowledge of the methods,materials, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repairof underground water and sewer services and facilities; skill in the use andcare of tools and equipment used in the work performed; sound knowledge of themethods, practices, tools and equipment applicable to maintenance and repairwork performed; considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards, propersafety precautions and environmental regulations applicable to the work; and abilityto use all aspects of Microsoft office and learn new and changing technology.Candidates must also possess sufficient physical strength and coordination topermit performance of manual work outdoors in all weather, including snowclearing duties.
The successful candidatedemonstrates a mechanical aptitude with the ability to establish and maintaineffective working relationships with employees and the public and a commitmentto promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team whilecontributing to a positive team environment. As a requirement of the position,the successful applicant must hold a valid BC driver's license Class 5, Class 3 w/air endorsement, and the ability and willingness to obtain Class 1 driver's license. Candidates must provide a satisfactorydrivers abstract prior to beginning employment.
This position works 76.5hours bi-weekly at a rate of $37.73per hour. Employees in the Utilities Group department shall normally work aschedule consisting of 8 days of work in a 14-day period. Each day of workshall be 10 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
