Detailed Job Description

The Resort Operations departmentof the Climate Action, Planning and Development Services division has anopportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Labourer Il –Parks Sanitation. Reporting to the Parks and Trails Supervisor, this positionoffers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting approximately mid-June 2024 untilmid-September 2024. The schedule is a 4-day (9.5 hours/day) work week,including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

The Labourer Il – Parks Sanitation’s primary role is toensure that municipal parks and trails are well maintained, clean and safe for visitoruse while acting as an ambassador of Whistler. This role will liaise andcommunicate with other RMOW departments and complete daily logs, order suppliesand materials, and assist the Supervisor and Lead Hand to optimize operationalefficiency for the department.

Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma, a validfirst aid certification, and have completed Building Services Worker 1 with atleast 2 years of experience in a similar role. Qualified candidates demonstrateconsiderable knowledge and experience with the methods, tools, practices, andstandards of facility cleaning and maintenance; WHMIS; knowledge of thehazards, necessary safety precautions and of the applicable regulations relatedto this work; and experience with a variety of hand and power tools. Qualifiedcandidates also demonstrate knowledge and experience with wildlifeconsiderations, risk assessment and public safety. Candidates must be physically able to perform moderateto heavy indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

The successful candidate is a professional, helpful and customer focused individual with excellent communication skills, and strongproblem-solving skills. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment topromoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will createand maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing toa positive team environment. The starting wage for this job position is $33.49per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicantmust hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactorydriver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
