Detailed Job Description

The Recreation department of the Community Engagement & Cultural Service division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Facilities Maintenance I. Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, this position requires the employee to work a variable schedule including nights, weekdays and weekends on varying shifts starting as soon as possible.

The Facilities Maintenance I’s role is to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the recreation facility. On a day-to-day basis, this position is responsible for performing regular janitorial duties such as, but not limited to: cleaning public common areas, washrooms, pool deck and change rooms. As well, this position includes light repair work such as monitoring pool chemicals and driving the ice resurfacer. In this role, a key responsibility involves engaging with the public to deliver exceptional customer service; addressing inquiries, ensuring guests comply with facility guidelines, and acting as an ambassador of the resort and RMOW.

Qualified candidates have a grade 12 diploma and previous work experience in a janitorial or building maintenance role and good working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial duties; some knowledge of refrigeration equipment operation and the ability to respond to alarms; some knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in pool maintenance and the ability to perform pool maintenance and pool monitoring duties; and the ability to use office and work order software. Candidates must be physically able to perform moderate indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Certifications required for the position include a valid Pool Operator Level I certificate; a valid Building Service Worker certificate; a valid Refrigeration Safety Awareness (RSA) course and certification from Technical Safety BC; and a valid Ice Facility Operator (IFO) course and certification from Technical Safety BC. Applicants with the ability to obtain the above certifications within a specified period will be considered.

The successful candidate is a professional, approachable, and helpful individual who enjoys engaging with the public, has great communication and listening skills, is a good problem solver, and has the proven ability to work independently. The successful candidate also demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team work environment. This position works 0 to 72 hours bi-weekly at a rate of $28.85 per hour. Each day of work shall be 9 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
