Detailed Job Description
TheUtilities department has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply forthe position of Industrial Electrician Utilities. Reporting to the WastewaterSupervisor, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon aspossible. This is skilled work at the journeyperson level involving theperformance of a variety of electrical installation, maintenance, and repairtasks, primarily related to the water distribution, water treatment, wastewatercollection and wastewater treatment infrastructure managed by the Utilities departmentand in accordance with Federal, Provincial and municipal regulations andstandards. An employee of this classalso installs, tests, and performs preventative maintenance on a variety ofelectronic sensors, controls, transmitters and similar components of automaticremote sensing and control systems.
Qualifiedcandidates possess a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, completion of technicalcourses related to the work, and a Red Seal or BCTQ Journeyperson ElectricalCertification (mandatory) supplemented by at least 5 years of Journeypersonexperience working with electrical and electronic control equipment andsystems. Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR) designation andcompletion of a broad range of technical courses related to the Water and Sewerindustry is desirable. An equivalent combination of training and experience maybe considered.
Qualifiedcandidates demonstrate through knowledge of the standard methods, practices,materials, tools, and equipment used in this type of electrical work andconsiderable knowledge of the hazards, necessary safety precautions, applicablerules, and governing regulations. Also, must possess the abilities tounderstand and carry out oral and written instructions; to read and work fromsketches, diagrams, and blueprints; to prepare and maintain related records; tomake responsible and effective decisions under pressure and in response toemergencies; and to direct one or more skilled or semi-skilled helpers asrequired. Candidates must be physical able to perform work outdoors in allweather conditions and is required to perform night work at times. Work may bewet, dirty, malodourous, and physically confined.
Thesuccessful candidate demonstrates excellent communication skills, strong initiative,and ability to work with minimal supervision, and commitment to promoting adiverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintaineffective working relationships with others while contributing to a positiveenvironment.
Asa requirement of the position, the successful candidate must possess a valid BCClass 5 driver’s license and provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior tobeginning work. This position works 76.5 hours bi-weekly at a rate of $48.10 perhour. This role normally works aschedule consisting of eight days of work in a fourteen day period. Each day ofwork shall be 10 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
