As a member of the Insight Health & Safety Team and reporting directly to the Quality Manager, the Health and Safety Assistant is responsible for promoting continuous health and safety improvements and ingraining safe work behaviours as part of day-to-day thinking. The primary responsibilities of this position include acting as a co-chair for the Joint Health and Safety Committee, conducting hazard and ergonomic assessments, providing new hire safety orientation, performing fit testing, and creating safety-related materials.
Major Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Conduct safety orientation for newly hired employees. Serve as a co-chair for the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Conduct quantitative N95 fit testing for clinical employees. Collect, organize, and store safety training certificates in appropriate folders. Coordinate the delivery and scheduling of safety training and awareness initiatives. Perform and review hazard assessments. Respond to ergonomic accommodation requests. Review and update safety-related documents as required. Maintain the internal Health and Safety online platform. Create safety posters and newsletters as needed. Maintain the employee immunization registry. Assist as requested with internal or external audits. Monitor safety incidents, investigations and metrics, and report on safety trends and issues. Assist with WCB Claims and the Return-to-Work Program. Respond and provide technical advice to employees and management on health and safety inquiries and issues. Stay updated with legislation and the latest safety trends, consistently implementing best practices in the workplace. Respond to occasional emergency calls on evenings and weekends. Additional duties may be assigned.Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
Excellent at building rapport and building interpersonal relationships. Attention to detail and data entry. Ability to effectively manage sensitive information with utmost confidentiality. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills. Experience in leading and facilitating safety training initiatives and meetings. Enthusiasm to help introduce new safety initiatives and implement new safe work practices. Able to organize and manage projects. Ability to effectively prioritize duties and multi-task in a high-paced work environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Qualifications
OHS Certificate is an asset. 1+ years experience in safety or related internship/co-op will be considered. Experience in working with a Learning Management System (LMS) is considered an asset.
