Reporting to the Manager, Social Work and Counselling and consistent with the Mission, Values and policies of St.Amant, the Counsellor is a critical role in ensuring the success of St.Amant business and operations. 

Position Summary and Scope of Service:

St.Amant embraces the goal of Jordan's Principle to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to the health and social services they need in their community. We are currently recruiting a Counsellor to support this initiative.

This hybrid remote position is based in Winnipeg with frequent overnight travel to First Nation communities in Manitoba.

The Counsellor provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, policies and procedures of the assigned Program(s), external legislation and regulatory bodies and all relevant professional standards of practice. The Counsellor is familiar with and promotes a “customer service focus” in the provision of services to clients, staff and in other professional relationships.

As an active team member in the Program(s) assigned, the Counsellor participates in continuous quality improvement activities, including the development, modification and implementation of service and program goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards. The Counsellor uses service evaluation feedback to purposefully and continually strengthen services. 

Qualifications:

Educational:

  • Masters obtained in counselling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy or related discipline from a recognized university

Professional:

  • Previous counselling experience, including individual work with children and adults
  • Extensive knowledge and the application of practice of individual and family/group dynamics
  • Knowledge of community resources and how to make use of them
  • Knowledge of CCPA Code of Ethics (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association)
  • Ability to identify high risk situations and respond appropriately
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, caregivers and families, to supervise and teach others and to work harmoniously with others
  • Knowledge of the literature in the area of developmental disabilities, of the history of support and treatment to individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability and of current trends, philosophies and practices concerning their care, education, work and lifestyles would be an asset.
  • Experience working within Indigenous communities / cultures is an asset.
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous culture and language would be an asset
  • Ability to travel including to remote communities in Manitoba where travel by small plane and/or boat may be required in addition to overnight stays in or around a respective community. Ability to work flexible hours as necessary

Personal:

  • Ability to demonstrate behavior consistent with the Mission and Values of St.Amant
  • Possess a valid Manitoba driver's license and a vehicle is a necessity for community based programs

St.Amant is a bilingual organization. Proficiency in both official languages (French/English) would be considered an asset.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases.
