Job Summary

The Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic (VPA) is responsible for the overall direction of the academic mission of the University at its Vancouver campus. The office provides leadership in strategic planning, financial planning, policy development and implementation, the recruitment and retention of scholarly personnel and infrastructure in order to achieve the University's broader aspirations. It is a large and diverse portfolio that includes 12 Faculties, and several academic support units, including the Library, UBC IT, Enrolment Services, CTLT, among others.

The Academic Integrity Hub in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic is a central hub that is focused on awareness, education and campus-wide initiatives around academic integrity. The mission of the Academic Integrity Hub is to promote awareness of academic integrity, to coordinate and develop educative materials, and to support faculty and students in learning about academic integrity and the academic misconduct process. The Hub aims to build, strengthen and promote UBC’s culture of academic integrity for students and for instructors.

The Academic Integrity Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening and promoting a culture of academic integrity for students. As a liaison with student leadership (AMS, GSS) and student societies and groups, the Academic Integrity Program Coordinator will be a point of contact for discussion, dialogue, ideas, and events for and with students. Working under the general direction of the Academic Integrity Associate Director, the Academic Integrity Coordinator will support a range of projects, programs, and outreach for students related to academic integrity.

The multifaceted role will work across three key areas including: 1) the development and delivery of academic integrity education and programming, 2) engagement and outreach with students throughout the year including student partnerships, events, and student communications and 3) support to the diversionary process for academic misconduct that is facilitated by the Academic Integrity Hub.

The role will support the Academic Integrity Associate Director in expanding the Academic Integrity Hub’s student offerings. This work will include the planning, development and delivery of academic integrity education, resources and programs with a focus on a student-audience.


To undertake and fulfil the performance of duties this role requires strong communication skills, initiative, creativity and an understanding of a broad range of cross-University perspectives. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and to adapt to change. This position regularly requires high confidentiality and comprehensive knowledge of the University, its programs, and personnel. This role requires the ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and judgment, and strong relationship-building skills.


Organizational Status
This position reports to the Academic Integrity Associate Director and works with the Academic Integrity Program Manager. The role works closely with students, unit and Faculty partners across campus, including student leadership, student groups and student societies.

Work Performed

Responsibilities include:

Education: Workshops and Program Development and Delivery

  • Develop and deliver academic integrity programming to students and expand the Academic Integrity Hub’s offering of student programs, resources and initiatives.
  • Deliver academic integrity workshops to students and student groups and participate in planning further educational programming.
  • Work with the Associate Director to develop student programs and engagement activities around academic integrity such as a peer mentorship program, faculty-student collaborations, and student drop-in hours for the Academic Integrity Hub.
  • Create and deliver engaging content for students on academic integrity that reaches them in commonly-used channels and creative ways.


Awareness: Student Communications, Engagement and Outreach

  • Liaise with AMS, AMS Advocacy, GSS, and other student leaders and societies around academic integrity topics, programs and events.
  • Develop and deploy communication and engagement activities around academic integrity for a student audience throughout the year and connect with teams across campus who communicate with students.
  • Carry out awareness and marketing activities and establish a yearly calendar of student outreach around academic integrity.
  • Carry out academic integrity awareness during Orientations, Academic Integrity Week, and other key milestones in UBC’s academic calendar.
  • Plan and coordinate events related to academic integrity for students.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop and promote student-facing programming.
  • Create student-oriented content around academic integrity for websites and digital channels, newsletters, and other publications.
  • Work with the Academic Integrity Program Manager to develop content for and to conduct the periodic review of a central academic integrity website with a focus on creating student-friendly and accessible content.
  • Stay up-to-date on academic integrity news within and outside of UBC including participating in provincial and national communities of practice when appropriate.

Support: Program Support for the Diversionary Process

  • Participate in the facilitation of the diversionary process, including leading one-on-one student meetings for cases referred to the Academic Integrity Hub and adapting content to individual cases.
  • Contribute to process development for the diversionary process pilot with the Academic Integrity Hub team. Deliver academic integrity education and awareness in the context of the diversionary process.
  • Revise and maintain resources connected to the diversionary process.
  • Performs other duties as required including some administration and coordination support for the Academic Integrity Hub.


Consequence of Error/Judgement

This position requires judgment, tact, discretion and initiative to an outstanding degree. Errors in judgment with internal or external constituents could have negative impact on the VPAO and the University resulting in legal suits, poor public relations, financial costs, loss of credibility.

Work must often meet tight deadlines and requires the incumbent to perform well under pressure. The incumbent must demonstrate exceptional public relations and interpersonal skills in dealing with students as well as faculty members. Inappropriate or errant communications of sensitive issues could have a serious impact on operations and have legal implications.

Exercises judgment and initiative in handling matters of a non-routine nature requiring the interpretation of University and Faculty guidelines, procedures and policies. Must exercise tact and diplomacy in interacting with students, staff, and faculty from UBC. Expected to exercise judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A good understanding of the complexities of academic integrity in a higher education context is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply policies and procedures and knowledge of UBC structure.
  • Strong project-management, critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of workshop design and implementation.
  • Experience delivering presentations or workshops in a university environment.
  • Experience working with students, staff and faculty in a research-intensive university would be an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. High attention to detail, and rigor.
  • Strong sense of initiative and creativity.
  • Able to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated success in using a variety of technologies to deliver programming. Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. WordPress experience would be an asset.
