Job Description

An exciting and challenging opportunity exists for a motivated professional to assume the role of Team Lead, Oncology Research. The successful candidate will be well organized and experienced in coordinating clinical trials and leading a team, ensuring all studies are audit-ready and negotiating trial budgets and collaborating with internal/external stakeholders to ensure new studies are on boarded and coordinated properly. This position will report to the Research Manager to ensure the program goals and objectives are met in alignment with the corporate strategic plan. 

Reporting to the Research Manager, you will: 

  • Coach, mentor, support, and facilitate with hiring and onboarding of new research staff
  • Provide feedback to Manager on staff performance and make recommendations on how to optimize team performance and cohesiveness
  • Create an environment that empowers individuals to take ownership and responsibility for their actions, promote staff initiative and nurture high morale and engagement
  • Maintaining high quality systems (e.g. quality assurance, guidelines, SOPs) for clinical research to uphold the highest standards of procedural and ethical excellence
  • Support the implementation of best practices and quality documentation within research
  • Investigate and help resolve any issues that arise which are impacting patients, staff, safety, compliance, quality, and integrity or business continuity
  • Assist in developing goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the Oncology Research Department
  • Assist Investigators in the interpretation, initiation and implementation of study protocols
  • Conduct patient screening, recruitment and consenting, ensuring completion of eligibility requirements prior to enrollment and randomization
  • Facilitate and coordinate the planned treatment schedule for each oncology trial patient; coordinate laboratory, pharmacy, and diagnostic activities pertaining to study ensuring that all procedures are carried out as per the study protocol and that specimens are shipped in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all appropriate regulations are adhered to in the conduct of research
  • Collect, transcribe and enter study related data into various EDC systems
  • Interact with sponsoring agencies regarding requests for clarifications of data and/or assisting monitors during site visits
  • Present research related information, including written study reports when necessary
  • Represent the William Osler Oncology Department at protocol development, study initiation and investigator meetings
  • Engage in networking and promoting the research program to bring on studies that meet the needs of our patients and families
  • Contribute to the growth of the research program through identification of funding and collaborative opportunities provincially, nationally and internationally with pharmaceutical industry and academia
  • As appropriate, participate in WOHS or industry working groups and committees, provide expertise and advice with respect to issues and interests of the Research Program

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a Health Science field of study 
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in Complex Clinical trials, including Oncology Research
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse is preferred
  • Current BCLS required
  • Certified Clinical Research Associate desired (CCRP or CRA designation)
  • Experience in clinical research required, must have current GCP, TCPS2- CORE (Tri-Council Policy Statement2-Course on Research Ethics), Health Canada Division 5 and Dangerous Goods certifications
  • Ability to learn and apply new procedures, therapies, medical devices, etc. 
  • Demonstrated effective communication, team building, problem solving and conflict resolution skills; able to work in a fast paced environment under pressure, maintaining a high level of productivity, competence and professionalism
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and documentation skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic data collection platforms (EDC) 
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems (i.e., Meditech) is an asset.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and deliverables
  • Demonstrated attention to details, with strong motivational, leadership and negotiation skills
  • Metrics-driven, with quality and customer service orientation

  • Ability to travel between sites
