Overview As a contributor to the Public Relations Department, the Content Specialist is responsible for leveraging specialized expertise in content planning, development, and editing to support the delivery of outstanding Public Relations, Marketing, and Communications results that align with the strategic plan of the National Payroll Institute (“Institute”). By ensuring that content created and distributed by the Institute is well‑researched, on‑brand and engaging, this individual materially enhances the Institute’s brand recognition, reception and reputation. They are consistently collaborative and creative, working with the cross‑functional Communications & Marketing team to test and evaluate innovative new approaches, while maintaining brand consistency and directly contributing to integrated marketing campaigns. Responsibilities Develop and execute editorial content strategy across the Institute’s main content channels, including email marketing, member print publication (DIALOGUE magazine), community platform (HCM DIALOGUE), and multi‑media content such as speech writing, script development, and presentation material. Manage content calendars, oversee content production, and collaborate cross‑departmentally to ensure cohesive promotion of all products and offerings. Review and edit content for alignment with Canadian Press (CP) Style, brand consistency, and appropriate tone; editorialize payroll‑specific content to ensure clarity and accessibility. Identify and execute targeted outbound lead‑capture campaigns to key influencer audiences (HR, Accounting, Bookkeepers) and oversee paid advertising programs to reach target audiences in support of all Institute products and brand equity‑building activities. Collaborate with product teams to develop compelling promotions and direct marketing plans; work closely with Public Relations team colleagues to integrate creative approaches into PR programs and campaigns. Contribute to the development of the department’s annual operational plan and budget; report on successes and learnings using effective KPIs. Qualifications Post‑secondary education: University degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related discipline OR relevant work experience. Minimum of 5 years of marketing, content development, public relations, corporate communications, digital marketing, social media, or related professional experience. Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. Advanced copywriting and proofreading abilities using CP Style of writing. Advanced project management skills. Intermediate computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and various Internet and research tools. Advanced knowledge and experience in communications, including editorial expertise, publishing, program planning, media releases, research, program execution and evaluation.
