What you can expect from this position This role oversees the maintenance, repair, and modification of the deicing operations fleet and related airport equipment. It ensures work quality and safety, directs Preventive Maintenance activities, investigates and resolves equipment deficiencies, manages staff assignments, and maintains compliance with warranty and maintenance standards. The role also supports emergency power unit programs, monitors spare parts inventory, provides technical advice, and performs vehicle mechanic duties as required. As a Supervisor, Deicing Operations Mechanics, you will Monitor all work being performed to support deicing operations fleet by touring job areas, inspecting active work, discussing assignments with Mechanics, and taking or recommending remedial action where workmanship does not meet required standards. Evaluate individual performance by completing job performance assessments, discussing potential improvement with employees, and assisting staff in achieving identified goals. Maintain current records of all warranties, coverage, conditions, and expiry dates, and ensure work performed on equipment under warranty complies with applicable terms and conditions. Recognize abuse in operating and maintenance procedures, advising the Manager and initiating remedial action as appropriate. Periodically and formally inspect all installed and portable equipment, prepares safety reports, and initiates required corrective actions. Direct the implementation of the Preventive Maintenance Program by scheduling and assigning work in an orderly and methodical manner and monitoring work progression to ensure timely completion. Analyze day‑to‑day work priorities to ensure that all emergency, crash, and fire rescue vehicles are maintained with minimum down time. Investigate deficiencies and malfunctions associated with design, operation, and maintenance of equipment, recommending corrective action to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Implement and supervise equipment rebuild and modification programs by analyzing requirements, determining feasibility, recommending replacement components, and overseeing assigned work. Allocate staff and control work for maintenance and repair of airport emergency power units, ensuring all scheduled PM tasks, inspections, and repairs are completed as required. Periodically assess spare parts inventory to determine optimum stock requirements, coordinating with supply staff and recommending improvements to parts availability and support. Perform the duties of a vehicle mechanic and participate in other assigned duties such as projects, reviews, and public displays requiring the incumbent’s skills and experience. This unionized position is classified at the Band 9 level, with an hourly wage rate of $57.66 based on a 40 hour work week. A practical and written test will be administered as part of the competitive process. This is the role for you, if you have Valid Ontario Truck and Coach Technician Certification (310T). Direct experience in vehicular and equipment maintenance gained in a variety of jobs worked over a very wide range of equipment. Knowledge and experience in a supervisory capacity. Valid Vestergaard Elephant Beta Certification would be an asset. Volvo/Freightliner truck maintenance and repair program will be an asset. Airport light vehicles maintenance and troubleshooting will be an asset. Valid Ontario Provincial Class G driver’s license. “D/A” level Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit. Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance. Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success Thorough knowledge of vehicle technology associated with the design, inspection, testing and use of deicing vehicles and equipment to serve the operational requirements of the GTAA Aircraft Ground Deicing Program and the maintenance and repairs. Knowledge of various diesel generator systems, their interfacing with other electrical systems and impact on connected facilities. Knowledge of a multitude of various types and designs of heavy duty and light duty equipment and electronic control systems. Knowledge of equipment and systems repair and maintenance procedures, scheduling requirements, spare parts and other supplies requirements and records requirements. Ability to schedule and inspect work. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices. Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of current Ministry of Transportation regulations and practices. Knowledge of computer applications including site specific applications. Ability to work rotating shifts to cover 24/7 deicing operation in the winter months. Ability to work in all weather conditions outdoors and in a fast-paced safety sensitive environment. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in an ever-changing mission critical airport environment.
