Job Title: Commercial Demolition Estimator

Location: Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Onsite & Infield

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Commercial Demolition Estimator to join our growing team in the Greater Toronto Area. The successful candidate will be responsible for prospecting new contractors, getting the company listed on their bidding rosters, performing on-site inspections, completing accurate quantity takeoffs, overseeing projects, and tracking spending. Reporting to the Senior Estimator, this position requires strong attention to detail, solid experience in reading and interpreting demolition/construction drawings, and the ability to work within strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Prospecting & Relationship Building

  • Identify and connect with potential new contractors and clients in the GTA
  • Register the company on relevant contractor bidding lists and maintain those relationships
  • Regularly follow up with contractors to stay informed on upcoming project opportunities

Site Visits & Assessments

  • Conduct thorough on-site evaluations of commercial demolition projects
  • Gather data and measurements accurately to inform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
  • Evaluate potential site complexities, constraints, and safety considerations

Estimating & Takeoffs

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using specialized estimating software
  • Calculate labor, materials, equipment, and ancillary costs accurately
  • Prepare complete, organized, and competitive bidding packages

Project Oversight & Tracking

  • Collaborate with the project management team to monitor project costs and budget adherence
  • Track and report project spending, highlighting any variances from initial estimates
  • Assist in resolving any cost or schedule issues as needed to ensure efficient project execution

Documentation & Reporting

  • Compile comprehensive bid documents, including scope of work, assumptions, and clarifications
  • Provide regular reporting on project status, cost trends, and issues to the Senior Estimator
  • Maintain organized and accessible files for all project documentation, including change orders

Plan Reading & Technical Expertise

  • Interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings for demolition work
  • Use plan reading expertise to identify key project details, constraints, and opportunities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify any discrepancies or requests for information

Deadline Management

  • Manage multiple bids and estimates concurrently under tight timelines
  • Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure all bidding and project deadlines are met
  • Communicate changes in schedules or scope promptly and effectively
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Experience: Minimum 3+ years of construction and/or demolition estimating experience
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, PlanSwift, Bluebeam) and MS Office Suite
  • Technical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of demolition methods, means, and building materials
  • Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to identify project risks, propose mitigation strategies, and adapt to changing project requirements
  • Detail-Oriented: High level of accuracy in cost estimating, budgeting, and project tracking
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, field teams, and clients
  • Valid Driver's License: Required for site visits and client meetings across the GTA
