About Us
The Infrastructure Management Section of Public Works is responsible for providing replacement and maintenance related support and service to approximately 2,300 provincially owned assets throughout the province of Nova Scotia. Infrastructure Management supports a wide range of Client requests ranging from Electrical, Mechanical and Architectural replacements as well as Maintenance related repairs and solutions. We are also responsible for the oversight of various Dams and Historical Vessels stationed throughout the province. Infrastructure Management supports a wide range of historical buildings and assets and helps to maintain the provincial diversity and culture these assets represent.

Primary Accountabilities
The Project Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and technical oversight to a multi-discipline trade team responsible for construction, renovation, and maintenance projects within provincially owned and leased facilities. Working under the direction of the Trade Shop Manager of (Construction and Maintenance), the Project Coordinator ensures that all work is planned, prioritized, and completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with departmental standards, building codes, and project specifications.
Key Accountabilities Include
- Supervision & Leadership: Provide day-to-day supervision, direction, and mentorship to skilled trades staff and contractors in the field, while fostering a safe, respectful, and productive work environment.
- Project Coordination: Plan, organize, and monitor a range of projects, from small maintenance activities to large-scale capital renovations, while managing scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Field Oversight & Technical Support: Provide on-site leadership, technical guidance (may occasionally provide hands on technical support) and problem-solving to trades personnel; coordinate with consultants, contractors, internal trades, and client representatives to address field conditions and ensure quality workmanship.
- Quality Control: Monitor and inspect work for compliance with specifications, drawings, codes, and departmental standards; verify that completed work meets established quality benchmarks prior to turnover or close-out.
- Reporting & Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Client Departments, Trade Shop Manager, Trades Coordinators and/or Project Managers, and our Safety Specialist through regular progress updates, cost control, and project reporting.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, departmental safety programs and policies, and applicable codes and standards.
- Administrative Support: Complete administrative and planning duties as assigned by the Trade Shop Manager.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and service delivery; promote skill development and knowledge sharing among trades staff.
Qualifications And Experience
You have a Bachelors' degree plus five (5) years of related experience in a construction environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
As the ideal candidate, you have several years of progressive experience in the skilled trades sector, with extensive hands-on field experience in construction, renovation, or maintenance environments. You possess a strong understanding of building systems, project coordination, and job-site safety, and you demonstrate sound judgment when making technical and operational decisions.
A valid Red Seal in a recognized trade, having gained experience working in the Public Sector or Institutional Facilities will be considered a significant asset.
You demonstrate a sound knowledge of all aspects of building construction and operation, including:
- extensive experience with maintenance and/or construction environments;
- familiarity with public procurement processes;
- innovative and can demonstrate critical thought;
- a strong verbal and written communicator;
- current knowledge with regulations, codes, policies, and programmes related to construction industry standards; and
- a self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision while using sound judgment skills, working with confidential information.
You bring proven leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, guide teams, and coordinate complex work in a fast-paced, multi-trade environment. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.
Proficiency with computers and familiarity with maintenance management or project tracking systems will also be considered an asset.
We will assess all qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:
- 9 years of progressive experience in the skilled trades sector.
- A valid red seal in a recognized trade will be considered a significant asset working in the public sector or institutional facilities.
- A Master's Certificate in Project Management or be currently enrolled in the (MCPMP), through a recognized provider.

Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed indoors within institutional and construction environments, with occasional outdoor work where typical hazards of a construction site may be present. Safety is a core priority, and you are expected to adhere to all departmental safety policies and safe work practices when operating tools, equipment, and machinery.
Some duties may involve physical activity such as climbing, working at heights, or entering confined spaces. The position also includes an administrative component, which will be performed in an office setting using computers and related software applications.
Additional Information
This is a Term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of November 27, 2026. The appointment status Term is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.
As travel is a component of this position, you must have a valid driver's license.
