About the Organization
This is a research program to examine how healthcare systems serve diverse Black and Black 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, locally, nationally, and globally. The program explores systemic barriers to equitable care, develops interdisciplinary approaches rooted in Black Studies, and addresses anti-Black racism in health systems research. It also focuses on expanding training in intersectional Black health and anti-racism practices to prepare the next generation of researchers to challenge systemic anti-Black racism and white supremacy in healthcare. The goal is to inform practice and influence policy, equipping health stakeholders to better support Black communities.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Projects Coordinator will provide critical support across research activities, operations, strategic initiatives, and budget management. A key focus of this role will be supporting genCARE (Genomic Evidence for Precision Medicine for Selected Chronic Diseases among Black Peoples in Canada), a major project funded by Genome Canada and supported by Research Nova Scotia.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day operations, timelines, and deliverables across multiple research initiatives. Develop and maintain project coordination systems. Maintain project standards, procedures, and documentation for all research and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare, write, and submit research ethics applications and renewals (REB, multi-site, and amendments) under the direction of the PI. Track approvals, compliance requirements, and renewal deadlines to ensure ongoing adherence to ethics standards.
- Monitor budgets, process invoices, and prepare financial reports in collaboration with PI. Advise on budget implications and issues at all stages, reviewing and advising on spending, as required.
- Coordinate community engagement initiatives and development of community-driven advisory committees. Organize community consultations, advisory council meetings, knowledge mobilization events, and events related to strategic initiatives.
- Conduct internal and external research for data-sharing opportunities. Identify and research funding and grant opportunities. Support supervision of and provide guidance on non-academic matters to research staff and students.
- Research and draft presentation materials, correspondence, and meeting documentation. Coordinate a high volume and wide range of internal and external meetings. Maintain internal communications, meeting agendas, and documentation.
