Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of our financial reporting. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee all accounting functions, manage financial reporting processes, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards. Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements relevant to nonprofit and governmental accounting.
  • Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal stakeholders and external regulators.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliation processes to verify account accuracy and integrity through detailed account analysis and double-entry bookkeeping practices.
  • Conduct regular account reconciliation activities across various ledgers using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Develop and implement robust internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Coordinate external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and support for audit inquiries.
  • Drive budgeting processes by preparing forecasts, analyzing variances, and supporting strategic financial planning initiatives.
  • Monitor cash flow to optimize liquidity management while maintaining accurate records of all transactions.
  • Lead regulatory reporting efforts ensuring timely submission of required filings with government agencies.
  • Manage technical accounting issues related to nonprofit structures or governmental funding streams, ensuring proper application of accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial analysis projects that support organizational growth and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving financial regulations, industry best practices, and emerging technologies in financial management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience in corporate accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP; experience with IFRS is a plus.
  • Proven expertise in nonprofit or governmental accounting environments is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and internal control frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of financial concepts including double-entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and general ledger management.
  • Demonstrated ability in financial report writing and analysis for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Excellent analytical skills coupled with strong attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
