Job description:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct compilation, bookkeeping, and tax engagements for small- and mid-sized business clients.
  • Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses, and manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Perform walkthroughs of A/R, A/P, capital asset acquisitions/dispositions, and payroll processes with clients.
  • Prepare financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules) to summarize client financial positions.
  • Assess and ensure appropriateness of audit evidence for expenses, revenues, capital asset additions, payables, receivables, and prepaid expenses.
  • Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies or irregularities in financial entries and reports.
  • Establish charts of accounts and prepare journal entries for posting.
  • Draft correspondence, client summaries, and technical reports outlining engagement findings and recommendations.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients while supporting partners and mentoring junior team members.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, identifying new opportunities to expand client relationships.
  • Maintain flexibility to travel locally as needed for client visits and inventory counts.

Skills and Experience

  • CPA designation or working toward CPA designation (CPA Candidate considered).
  • 7 years of relevant public accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian GAAP.
  • Proficiency in accounting/tax software (Caseware, Xero, QuickBooks Online, Taxprep preferred).
  • Solid understanding of business, accounting, and practice development principles.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to entrepreneurs in plain language.
