Previous experience with an accounting firm is preferred.

This is a full-time role and expected to start within immediately.

Key accountabilities:

  • Prepare and file annual Notice to Reader financial statements, income tax returns (personal, corporate and trust), annual HST returns, WSIB returns, EHT returns and other regulatory filings on behalf of the firm's clients
  • Plan, prepare and index information for compilation and review engagements
  • Prepare accurate and properly formatted financial statements with appropriate disclosures and ensure that CPA Canada Handbook principles are followed where appropriate
  • Assist with the review and preparation of various tax compliance returns (T3s, T4s, T5s, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with clients
  • Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency on behalf of clients
  • Prepare professional correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts and highlights resulting from the client engagement
  • Communicate with clients to discuss and review year-end financial statements and tax returns
  • Other special projects including but not limited to re-financing projects, business valuations, corporate re-organizations and estate planning
  • Must have the ability to travel to clients as required

The Ideal applicant will have:

  • Post-secondary education preferably in Accounting or equivalent work experience
  • CPA designation would be an asset
  • 2+ years relevant experience in accounting and/or public accounting
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.) required
  • Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Profile and QuickBooks is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time constraints in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work outside the normal office hours during tax season.
