Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Laborer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. This role is essential in supporting various construction and maintenance projects, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
A skilled construction labourer should have a structured task plan including daily equipment checks, material handling, and safety inspections, weekly progress updates and maintenance, and monthly reporting and project assessments.
Daily Tasks
Site Preparation and Safety Checks: Inspect the construction site, check for hazards, ensure safety equipment is in place, and confirm compliance with Net Zero Safety Program. Notify supervisor of any deficiencies and issues found that needs to be addressed.
Equipment and Tool Management: Maintain, inspect, grease and clean power tools, hand tools, and equipment on site.
Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively. Measure, cut and install materials. Use levels chalk lines and other tools to ensure proper alignment and finish.
Material Handling: Unload, organize, and distribute materials according to daily project
needs.
Assisting in Construction Operations: Support skilled tradespeople (carpenters, masons, electricians) by preparing work areas, concrete work, demolition, framing lifting materials and performing manual labor tasks.
Housekeeping: Keep the worksite clean and free of debris, removing waste materials and maintaining organized storage for safety and efficiency.
Documentation and Reporting: Log completed tasks, worker hours, and material usage, finishing brief activity reports at the end of each day to the supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
Weekly Tasks
Progress Assessment: Review weekly accomplishments against the construction schedule and report issues or delays to the supervisor.
Major Equipment Servicing: Schedule and perform comprehensive servicing or replacement of major equipment, such as forklifts, cement mixers, or power tools.
Inventory Check: Audit materials used during the week, reorder supplies, and ensure proper storage.
Site Adjustments: Adjust for ongoing projects, such as measuring and marking areas for next week's construction phases.
Monthly Tasks
Project Planning Support: Assist supervisors in preparing monthly progress reports, documenting completed milestones, and identifying potential bottlenecks in workflow.
Training and Skill Development: Participate in occupational safety training, certifications, or skill workshops relevant to construction practices.
Inspection and Compliance: Ensure all site activities meet building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards; prepare for inspections.
Long-Term Material Planning: Review usage trends, anticipate material needs for upcoming months, and support budgeting decisions for supplies and equipment maintenance
Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction or skilled labor is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to operate various hand tools and power equipment safely.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow directions accurately.
- Willingness to learn new skills and techniques related to the trade.
