Position Summary:

This position plays a key role in executing Human Resources initiatives and delivering day-to-day support across the full HR function, including both operational and administrative responsibilities.

The HR Generalist will manage full-cycle recruitment and actively handle employee relations, attendance and performance management, leaves and accommodations, training, health and safety support, compliance, and engagement.

The ideal candidate is adaptable, resourceful, experienced in unionized environments, and committed to fostering a respectful and positive workplace. They enjoy a challenge, are willing to do what it takes to get the job done, and consistently demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Partner with employees and managers regularly to build strong relationships, provide guidance and promote well-being, engagement, and positive morale.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, screening, interviewing, selection, background checks, offers, new hire documentation, and onboarding, to ensure a seamless hiring experience.
  • Handle employee relations for both unionized and non-unionized staff, including attendance, performance, return-to-work process, accommodations, workplace investigations, discipline, and conflict resolution.
  • Prepare and maintain HR documentation such as employment letters, status changes, training records, and personnel files.
  • Coordinate training initiatives, including arranging sessions on company devices, leading lunch and learns, and playing an active role in overall organizational learning and development.
  • Support the performance review process, ensuring key learnings and takeaways are actioned, while providing guidance and support to managers and employees throughout.
  • Assist with Health & Safety, incident reviews, investigation documentation, JHSC collaboration, and reporting to corporate.
  • Oversee compliance with employment laws (including ESA, OHSA, Human Rights Code, AODA, CNESST) ensuring corporate policies are adhered to and company-specific policies and SOPs are regularly updated and followed.
  • Contribute to employee engagement and recognition initiatives, including the Social Committee, performance achievements and service recognition.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to foster a positive attitude toward organizational objectives while tracking and adhering to HR key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Work on special projects and research related to compliance, future growth, and expansion.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive HR experience in warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, or a closely related environment.
  • Experience supporting unionized environments, with a solid understanding of collective agreements and labour relations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy.
  • Exercises sound judgment and remains professional in all interactions.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of employment legislation, HR compliance and best practices.
  • Demonstrates stress tolerance and adaptability in response to fluctuating workloads.
  • Self-motivated and accountable, with a strong ability to work collaboratively within teams.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems, with ADP WFN experience considered an asset.

Academic/Education Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field.
  • CHRP/CHRL designation or working towards it is an asset.
