AEO/SEO Specialist
Join a growing AI-first marketing team as a true "army of one" SEO/AEO specialist, owning end-to-end organic performance for a portfolio of client accounts.
Role overview
This full-time role is based in our Yorkville, Toronto office, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the option for remote work for candidates who can demonstrate a high level of independence, self-management, and accountability. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of traditional SEO and emerging Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), from audit and strategy through implementation oversight, reporting, and continuous optimization.
Key responsibilities
Own end-to-end SEO/AEO for 5-8 client accounts, acting as the primary specialist without reliance on a large internal team.
Plan and execute comprehensive website audits covering technical SEO, AEO readiness, schema, crawlability, indexing, analytics configuration, and local search (e.g., Google Business Profiles). Work with web developers to implement these changes.
Develop and implement keyword and prompt research strategies, monitoring 20–25 priority prompts per client to improve visibility in AI-powered and traditional search experiences.
Deliver on-page optimization (titles, meta descriptions, headers, FAQs, internal links) and collaborate with designers/developers to implement recommended changes.
Create blog calendars, detailed content briefs and SEO/AEO enriched content that aligns with search and answer engine behaviours.
Identify opportunity gaps and high-intent queries, and translate them into actionable content and optimization initiatives that drive leads and revenue.
Coordinate and quality-check schema markup, , sitemaps, and other technical elements with internal and external development resources.
Plan and execute ethical link-building and 3rd party citation building initiatives appropriate to each client's niche and risk profile.
Produce clear monthly reports and performance intelligence dashboards that connect traditional SEO metrics with AI/answer engine visibility, including competitor benchmarks and recommended next steps.
Participate in quarterly strategic reviews, adjusting strategies as platforms evolve and as client business priorities shift.
Must-have experience and skills
3–5 years of hands-on SEO experience in an in-house or agency environment, with a track record of owning campaigns end-to-end.
Demonstrated exposure to and curiosity about Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), AI search, and optimizing for large language models and conversational interfaces.
Strong technical SEO foundations: site audits, page speed and Core Web Vitals concepts, structured data, indexing issues, canonicalization, and analytics tagging.
Proficiency with standard SEO tools (e.g., Google Analytics/GA4, Search Console, major SEO suites, and crawling tools) and comfort learning new AI-focused visibility tools.
Solid content strategy and on-page optimization skills, including the ability to brief writers, interpret business goals, and translate them into content plans that perform.
Experience managing multiple accounts or stakeholders simultaneously, prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex SEO/AEO concepts in plain language to clients and non-technical stakeholders.
What "army of one" means here
You are comfortable being the primary driver of SEO/AEO strategy and execution, working closely with leadership rather than depending on a large team.
You are proactive, resourceful, and able to self-direct: spotting issues, proposing solutions, and seeing them through to implementation.
You enjoy building processes, checklists, and repeatable workflows that can scale as the company grows.
Work setup and expectations
Primary location: Yorkville, Toronto office, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Remote considered for candidates with a strong track record of independent work, reliable communication, and consistent delivery across multiple accounts.
This role offers the opportunity to help shape how small and mid-sized businesses get discovered by both search engines and AI-driven answer engines.
To apply, please submit your resume and a brief note summarizing 2–3 SEO campaigns you have owned (including your role, what you did, and the impact on results), plus any experience you have experimenting with AI or answer engines to
