As a Transit Engineer, you will work in the Infrastructure Services Department, a team that plans, designs, builds, and optimizes infrastructure investments to create inclusive, accessible, creative, and connected communities. Working specifically within Transit Project Development, the position will lead and develop business cases, project initiation, concept design, and functional design of transit focused capital projects that advance corporate services. Projects will be focused on transit services, but will take a user-focused, holistic and multidisciplinary approach in working across the organization to integrate, mobility, parks and open spaces, housing and recreation opportunities, and future commercial developments. Planning and development of projects will include light rail transit, bus rapid transit, and transit maintenance facilities.

This position reports to the Leader, Engineering and Design within the Transit Project Development division, and will aid with day-to-day management activities, coordinating initiatives, and planning. Primary duties include:

  • Develop and lead functional planning for public transit projects.
  • Collaborate with divisional staff to develop requests for proposals (RFPs), request for qualifications (RFQs), and or requests for information (RFIs) for consulting services and market sounding for transit related projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from across the corporation or from other organizations to develop strategic solutions that improve the experience of Calgarians and transit riders using transit services and spaces.
  • Apply best industry practices and identify innovative solutions for the planning, design and implementation of transit projects.
  • Write, edit, review, and track all reports going to committees and Council, and liaising on reporting requirements with government funding partners at Provincial and Federal levels.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field and at least 1 year of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience in project initiation, concept development, feasibility planning, engineering and design of public transit projects will be an asset.
  • Experience developing business plans, RFPs, RFQs and authoring reports will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in transit planning, transit operations or other aspects of public transit projects management will be an asset.
  • Success in this position requires effective communication, decision-making, negotiation and project management skills; and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams with both internal and external partners.
