About the Role

Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital (BBVSH) is looking to add experienced Veterinary Assistants (VA) with 1 to 3+ years experience to join our dynamic hospital.

The ideal candidate would:

  • ·Be a graduate of a Veterinary Assistant, Office Assistant, or have equivalent experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital (an asset).
  • Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and expand knowledge in veterinary care and
  • services.
  • Foster a warm, positive, and low-stress environment for both patients and clients.
  • Exhibit a compassionate and nurturing attitude toward animals and people alike.
  • Remain calm, composed, and adaptable in fast-paced or changing situations.
  • Work efficiently and independently when completing assigned tasks.
  • Take initiative and show strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients and team members.
  • Perform well under pressure and in a focused, dimly lit environment.
  • Safely lift and assist with patients up to 120 lbs (approximately 50 kg with two people).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Input patient information into the Echo machine prior to patient arrival
  • Assist the veterinary team with physical exams, echocardiograms, blood collection,
  • catheter placement, radiographs, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, and pericardiocentesis.
  • Accurately document patient histories and visit summaries in EzyVet for all appointments.
  • Demonstrate understanding of each patient's presenting concern and reason for the visit.
  • Safely restrain patients using Fear Free techniques, including those who are fearful or aggressive.
  • Handle all patients with care and compassion.
  • Intake appointments, communicating with clients about visit goals and patient concerns.
  • Engage with clients in a friendly and professional manner, addressing questions and
  • providing updates on patient health.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including sweeping, mopping, cleaning the echocardiogram table, probes, and machine, taking out garbage, and assisting with laundry.
  • Process client billing and assist with appointment scheduling.
  • Support cardiac surgeries by preparing and cleaning the surgery room, assisting with
  • patient prep, intraoperative support, operating fluoroscopy, and cleaning/sterilizing instruments.
  • Run in-house laboratory tests such as chemistry profiles, CBCs, and PCV/TS.
  • Complete computer-based administrative tasks, including billing and sending client reminders.
