Job Summary and Responsibilities

Administer the organisation's established human resource programs so that they are implemented efficiently and equitably and comply with all relevant collective agreements, individual employment contracts, regulations, laws, and the organisation's employment policies and standards. Responsible for Human Resources and Labour Relations for the YYZ station (ground handling and cargo businesses)

The HRBP reports directly to the VP of HR for Swissport Canada and has a dotted line to the General Manager.

Job Responsibilities

Employees/Labour relations

  • Interpret and apply collective agreement (3) and company policies for all departments (time and attendance, Code of Conduct, etc.);
  • Advise and manage discipline matters for unionised and non-unionised employees;
  • Address complaints, workplace investigations or concerns identified at the station;
  • Manage and resolve grievances with union representatives;
  • Prepare cases for arbitration, working with legal counsel, as required;
  • Participate in 3 CBA renewals (2 in 2026);
  • Ensure compliance with various legislations and regulatory bodies, including the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Code and others;
  • Monitor industrial relations and employee relations developments to prevent disputes and be proactive in presenting initiatives and solutions to workplace-related issues;
  • Act as a facilitator among the various workplace stakeholders (management, unions, colleagues).

Disability management

  • Oversee Return to Work program (both permanent/temporary and occupational/non-occupational accommodations);
  • Ensure compliance with H&S and worker compensation legislations and regulatory bodies, including the WSIB;
  • Liaise between operational leadership and the external disability management provider;
  • Represent the company in dealings with various governmental agencies, including ESDC, WSIB and Human Rights Commission.

Others duties

  • Update/develop/implement policies and procedures as required;
  • Provide training to management regarding the collective agreement, HR policies and procedures, and assist them in working with their employees to achieve their performance standards;
  • Lead succession and talent management within the station to identify its capability strengths and gaps and plan effectively to ensure appropriate staffing that will meet current and future needs;
  • Support in the design and implementation of organisational development, performance management and talent retention efforts at all levels of the station;
  • Facilitate and support change programmes/ initiatives to achieve a client-driven business to ensure maximum effectiveness, minimise the loss of key employees and maintain effective employee relations;
  • Support all communications initiatives and channels to employees;
  • Contribute to driving world-class employee satisfaction within the station through the implementation of relevant organisational initiatives that build on employee commitment;
  • Maintain involvement in and provide guidance and support in other areas of HR, including benefits administration, payroll, recruitment, and orientation.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • University Degree in Human Resources Management (HRM) or in Industrial and Labour Relations;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years HR experience with a strong emphasis on labour relations and disability management;
  • Strong preference given to candidates with the CHRP designation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English);
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence a range of audiences;
  • Good knowledge of federal employment legislation (Canada Labour Code, duty to accommodate, …);
  • Experience in the aviation industry (an asset);
  • Knowledge of business management principles and practices;
  • High energy, personal presence, and maturity as components of leadership ability to facilitate the best decision-making and values.
  • Excellent decision-making skills based on facts and analyses;
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask;
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • Ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships;
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously;
  • Personal and professional integrity of the highest order.
  • In-person presence at the airport office for a minimum of 3 days a week.
