Role Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food safety and quality assurance within the plant. This includes developing and implementing quality systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, leading audits, and driving continuous improvement across production processes.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety protocols and quality control systems (e.g., HACCP, GMP, SQF, BRC).
  • Serve as the site's Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and BRC Practitioner.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and customer-specific requirements.
  • Lead internal audits and prepare for external inspections.

Operational Oversight

  • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for non-conformances.
  • Manage traceability exercises and ensure reconciliation goals are met.
  • Oversee environmental sampling, sanitation verification, and pest control programmes.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead the Food Safety Team and Crisis Management Team.
  • Provide training to staff on food safety, hygiene, and quality protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, sanitation, and maintenance.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Respond to customer queries and provide technical support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications: HACCP, BRC, SQF, PCQI preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian food safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Monday to Friday, with flexibility for audits or crisis response.
  • Environment may be warm, dusty, and physically demanding.
