JOB SUMMARY

The Sous Chef at the Grotto Spa's Treetop Tapas & Grill, will support the Chef in delivering a distinct culinary experience. Situated in an intimate 30-seat, reservations-only setting, a newly renovated state of the art kitchen, and featuring a set menu with a tapas presentation. Together with the Chef, the Treetop Sous Chef will provide leadership and support to the culinary team, inspiring them to embrace innovation within the parameters of the dining environment. The Sous Chef will conduct frequent table touches when the Chef is not available, engage with guests, and present dishes. During peak times, the Sous Chef will support managing the line and expo ensuring each dish is made to perfection. As well, ensuring food production consistently meets Treetops standards.

The Sous Chef will have the opportunity to demonstrate culinary creativity and share ideas and suggestions for seasonal menu and present unique dishes for the Chef's consideration. The incumbent will take pride supporting the Treetop culinary experience, and Team, leading through Tigh-Na-Mara's values, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Treetop Chef in crafting memorable, world-class dining experiences for our guests.
  • Lead the kitchen team with confidence and care, ensuring excellence in every service and stepping in seamlessly when the Chef is away.
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality, consistency, and presentation across all dishes.
  • Contribute creative ideas to seasonal menus that reflect our region and resort spirit.
  • Oversee daily preparation and service readiness, upholding FoodSafe and resort cleanliness standards.
  • Assist with inventory management, cost awareness, and thoughtful labor planning.
  • Mentor and inspire team members, fostering growth, collaboration, and pride in their craft.
  • Communicate openly with culinary, front-of-house, and spa teams to deliver a smooth, unified guest experience.
  • Lead by example, bringing professionalism, positivity, and a genuine passion for hospitality to every shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A genuine passion for culinary excellence, presentation, and quality ingredients.
  • Experience in fine dining or elevated culinary environments with refined plating and flavour execution.
  • Proven leadership experience in a professional kitchen (3–5 years preferred).
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and support a cohesive, high-performing team.
  • Strong knowledge of prep systems, station organization, and service flow.
  • Experience with ordering, inventory, and kitchen administration an asset.
  • Understanding of food and labor cost management, or eagerness to develop these skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management abilities.
  • Red Seal Certification preferred; FoodSafe Level 2 considered an asset.
  • A positive, growth-minded leader who models professionalism and continuous improvement.
