**Salary**: $2,345.14 to $3,076.28 bi-weekly ($61,208 - $80,290/year)

The Strategic Services Division helps define and support the strategic direction of the department. It is responsible for strategic planning, coordinated policy development, informed decision making, intergovernmental relations, and overall improvement of services provided to Albertans. Strategic Services manages the ministry's strategic policy development and policy integration, governance and appeals, intergovernmental relations, research and analysis, quality assurance, continuous improvement, training and evaluation of services provided to Albertans. We also support analytics and data integration for the ministry.

The Strategic Policy, Priority Coordination and Appeals Branch provides leadership and support for policy development across all Ministry areas. It includes three units: Strategic Policy and Priority Initiatives, Appeals Secretariat, and Priority Coordination, Legislation and Agency Governance (PCLAG).

The PCLAG Unit tracks and coordinates planning around key ministry items and provides governance, policy advice and expertise to support the ministry's agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs). The Agency Oversight Unit (AOU) provides governance expertise and support for the Ministry and Ministry agency secretariats, oversees the public agency recruitment and appointment process, develops and delivers governance orientation and training, facilitates agency assessment, and ensures compliance with the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act, the Public Agencies Governance Policy (Policy) and serves as the Ministry’s primary contact for the Public Agency Secretariat.

**Role Responsibilities**:
We are seeking for an independent, resourceful, and results driven professional to join our team as a Governance Analyst.

Reporting to the Manager, Agency Oversight, the Governance Analyst is responsible for coordinating and supporting the Ministry’s agency recruitment and appointment process, monitoring compliance with the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act and the Policy, and managing the agency tracking and reporting system.

The Governance Analyst conducts research and provides analysis, prepares briefings, and provides advice, training, and recommendations related to Ministry agencies. This position coordinates governance and recruitment projects, supports effective internal and public communications, and participates on Ministry and cross-ministry committees.

The Governance Analyst provides advice and support to the secretariats. This position also serves as a key liaison with the Public Agency Secretariat to ensure the central coordination of agency appointments and alignment with government-wide obligations and policies. Strong interpersonal, written communication, and relationship-building skills are essential, given the collaborative nature of this position.

Success in this position requires the ability to think strategically and understand how the fine details may have bigger implications and to help navigate complex issues, systems and relationships in a politically sensitive environment. Other abilities such as initiative, systems thinking, engaging others and proactively identifying, troubleshooting and resolving issues are also crucial.

There is a great deal of discretion and freedom to be innovative in order to achieve the desired results. Within the context of assignments, this position must determine the most appropriate approach and practice to achieve results.

Key responsibilities of the Governance Analyst also include:

- Following best practices in governance including adhering to legislative requirements.
- Providing advice and guidance on required documentation, including draft Ministerial Orders and Recommendations for Order in Council for appointments, remuneration and agency establishment and disestablishment.
- Completing regularly scheduled reporting on public agencies (e.g., the disclosure of remuneration paid to public bodies).
- Managing projects and developing processes and procedures, reports, briefings, action plans, tools, resources, databases and tracking systems.
- Developing and delivering common Ministry agency governance orientation and training programs.

**Minimum Recruitment Standard**:

- University graduation in a related field (Public Administration and Governance, Public Policy, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Business Analytics, Science, etc.).
