Join our Agency Governance Unit as a Senior Governance Analyst and help shape governance practices that support transparency and excellence.
As a Senior Governance Analyst, you will:
- Lead and support governance initiatives for public agencies, including compliance monitoring, agency reviews, and process improvements.
- Develop best practices and tools such as guidelines, workflows, templates, and checklists to strengthen governance frameworks.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations on governance issues, legislative compliance, and agency establishment or dissolution.
- Coordinate and manage projects such as Mandate and Roles Document renewals, Codes of Conduct updates, and agency accountability reporting.
- Prepare briefing materials and reports for senior leadership and respond to action requests with sound legislative interpretation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including program areas, Public Agency Secretariat, and legal services to ensure effective governance.
- Provide support for the recruitment and appointment processes for the department's 22 legislated public agencies, ensuring alignment with legislation, policy, and best practices.
- Assist with coordinating agency governance activities, including tracking vacancies, preparing documentation, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and maintenance of tracking systems for agency appointments and reporting.
- Support the continuous improvement in governance practices and internal workflows.

Requirements:
- A university degree in Public Administration, Law, Political Science, Business Administration or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in areas such as governance, policy development, legislative compliance, project management, process improvement, or stakeholder engagement.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Understanding of Alberta's Public Agencies Governance Act (APAGA) and related governance policies.
- Experience supporting agency creation, extension, or dissolution processes.
- Familiarity with Mandate and Roles Documents and Codes of Conduct.
- Knowledge of Ministerial and Cabinet approval processes.
- Ability to use records management systems and collaborative tools like SharePoint.
- Comfort handling confidential information and working in environments where discretion is essential.
- Experience as a volunteer or serving as a board member or staff member working with a board of an organization.

NotesThis position work Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
