Coordinator, TFN Student Success

The TFN Student Success Coordinator will monitor the academic and social success of all Tsawwassen First Nation students in the district, working collaboratively with the schools in which the students are registered, the education staff on TFN Lands, the District’s Indigenous Education Department and the TFN Education Managers. The TFN Success Coordinator reports to the District Principal of Indigenous Education in the Delta School District.

Description of Duties:

- Meet with school based personnel to advocate for opportunities or interventions that will uphold academic development and student success for course completion and plans beyond high school for TFN students.
- Supervise and schedule Education Assistants who are hired specifically to work with TFN students both in the schools and at TFN.
- Create comprehensive anecdotal reports on each TFN student’s progress, including reading assessments, parent communication and developmental needs to ensure success.
- Liaise with parents about school district expectations, successful transitions, and report card information.
- Help to create successful programming between the TFN Site School, DSD schools and families of secondary students.
- Support the TFN Site School staff and students as required.
- Advocate for students and families with schools with regards to cultural considerations in their schooling.
- Other duties as requested.

**Requirements**:

- Knowledge of various instructional practices and frameworks in the areas of literacy, all curricular areas and Core Competencies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that will build positive working relationships with the TFN parents and community, teachers, administrators, and District staff.
- An understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning and Indigenous perspectives within the curriculum.
- Demonstrated and thorough understanding of the historical context of the Indigenous population, and the effects of trauma on Indigenous communities; and the strengths-based perspective gained through education, professional observation, and practice.
- Willingness to work with families to develop a holistic approach to educational development.
- Experience working with and engaging Indigenous communities, parents and/or youth.
- Current knowledge of Social Emotional Learning (ACES, Trauma Informed Practice, Circle of Courage, Ensouling Our Schools).
