**Salary is based on TQS category and years of experience, ranging from $60,625 - $106,217.**

**Coordinator, Indigenous Secondary Empowerment**
The goal of this position is twofold in nature: to monitor the academic success of Secondary students with Indigenous ancestry and to facilitate the Indigenous Youth Empowerment program for Grades 6-12 school students. Reporting to the District Principal of Indigenous Education, the Coordinator will work with members of the Indigenous Education department as well as with members of the Learning Services team, the TFN Education Management and the school-based Secondary Indigenous Success Advocates.
The Secondary Indigenous Success Coordinator position will have as the main areas of focus to:
- Develop and monitor a systematic program for tracking secondary student success (including attendance and grad course completion data)
- Attend regular meetings in the Indigenous Education Department and the Learning Services department to communicate information as necessary
- Work in partnership with the Tsawwassen First Nation Education Department staff as the Indigenous Education department meets with them on a bi-weekly basis to review secondary TFN students.
- Organize, promote and accompany Post-Secondary visits for Indigenous students in grades 9-12 (i.e. visits to KPU, KPU Trades, UBC, SFU, Native Education College, and others as seen fit). Coordinate new secondary initiatives that are offered by outside agencies (ie Blade Runners, ACCESS, Paul Martin initiative) and are tailored for the students.
- Provide professional learning opportunities for teachers on relevant topics throughout the school year.
- Collaborate with members of the Indigenous Education team to organize and deliver various events (e.g. Indigenous Family nights, National Indigenous People’s Day, etc)
- Co-Plan Spring Break, Winter and Summer programming with the Indigenous Education team.
- Work with the Indigenous Education team to support transitions - Gr 7 to 8, Grade 9-10 and 12 to Post-Secondary
**Indigenous Youth Empowerment Program**:
- The goal of Indigenous Youth Empowerment program is to create a supportive, empowering environment that fosters the growth and success of Indigenous students.
- Develop, promote and facilitate a comprehensive Indigenous youth program for students (gr. 6-12) in the Delta School District. This includes planning and implementing different components for different grades and student needs, including Creating a Path Forward support for grades 10-12 students.
- Engage students, parents and Indigenous leaders in the planning and implementation process to ensure the program meets the needs of the students and reflects cultural values.
- Tailor activities to the interests and backgrounds of students and regularly assess the program’s impact through feedback from students, parents and community members. Take recommendations as appropriate.
- Coordinate Indigenous Success Advocates (ISA) in Secondary schools, helping them to promote the programming within schools to encourage participation and support:
- Coordination of key components of the ISA Role could include:
- Building relationships with youth
- Cultural Education and Activities
- Leadership Development
- Community Engagement
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in the classroom
- Demonstrated and thorough understanding of the historical context of the Indigenous population. An awareness and understanding of the TRC Calls to Action and the District goal of Equity for all learners.
- An ability to provide cultural and leadership opportunities in schools (Grades 8-12) as well as inquiry or project-based learning
- Experience working with local, place-based Coast Salish communities in providing educational experiences to students with Indigenous ancestry
