**Come and Grow with Us**
**We**are the Britannia Mine Museum located in beautiful Britannia Beach, British Columbia on the unceded, traditional territory of the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation.
**You**are a senior leader with a growth mindset keen to take on an exciting challenge in the cultural/museum/tourism space.
**Summary of Role**
The **Director of Museum Growth & Development**is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving revenue growth and expanding Britannia Mine Museum’s financial sustainability through a variety of channels. This includes overseeing the sales and marketing team, managing communications strategies, overseeing the retail and cafe operations, and handling outside sales (i.e. travel trade partnerships, corporate membership programs). This role is integral to the Museum’s long-term success and sustainability. The position requires a highly motivated individual with experience in driving revenue across multiple channels. The Director of Museum Growth & Development will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to increase visitation, enhance the museum’s retail and hospitality offerings, grow corporate memberships, and develop external partnerships that align with the museum’s mission, vision and values.
This role requires a dynamic, results-oriented individual with expertise in sales, marketing, communications, and business development, particularly in the cultural or tourism sectors.
The Director of Museum Growth and Development will coordinate with the Executive Director and other department directors to operate within a **satellite cross-functional organizational structure**, where departments and teams are organized around key functions and strategically aligned goals, rather than being siloed. This structure fosters collaboration and flexibility, allowing each department to function autonomously while remaining deeply integrated with other areas of the museum.
Directors at the Museum will service this structure by ensuring the following:
**Leading Decentralized Yet Unified Departments**: While departments are led independently, they work in close coordination with one another, ensuring that operations are aligned with the overall mission and vision of the museum. Each team is empowered to take ownership of its goals and functions, with clear communication and collaboration across departments.
**Leading Cross-Functional Teams**: Key projects and initiatives will often be managed by coordinating **cross-functional teams**that bring together expertise from various departments (e.g., marketing, curatorial, site, programs) to drive innovation, solve problems, and achieve shared objectives.
**Taking a Flexible and Adaptive Approach**: This structure enables the museum to remain agile, with teams able to respond quickly to changing needs, trends, and opportunities. Department directors and team leaders work together to align resources, share insights, and maintain focus on both short-term and long-term goals in the overall strategic plan.
**Performance Analysis and Reporting**:Monitor and analyze relevant key data to report on performance indicators related to: marketing and sales performance, website traffic, campaign engagement, visitor numbers, visitor origin, sales conversions, café and retail revenue. Use relevant data for continuous improvement. Be prepared at all times to report to or present to the Executive Director and/or the Board Executive and/or Board M&O Committee and/or other committees of the Board and/or the Leadership Team and/or the broader team.
**Key Areas of Responsibility**:
**Sales and Marketing**
**Museum Retail and Cafe Operations as Revenue Channels**
**Corporate Membership Development and Retention**
**External Sales: Travel Trade and Corporate Partnerships**
**Budgeting and Financial Oversight**
**Team Leadership and Development**
**Public Relations and Communications**
**Key Qualities**:
**Strategic & Tactical Leadership**: Balance long-term strategic vision with day-to-day tactical execution, ensuring the museum’s goals are met while adapting to changing priorities and challenges.
**Cross-Departmental Collaborative Project Management**: Work closely with all museum departments using program management principles and fostering a collaborative environment that drives alignment on key projects, initiatives, and operational goals.
**Growth & Innovation**:Inspire and lead efforts that foster sustainable growth, always striving for results that exceed expectations and push beyond the status quo.
**Results Focused**:Drive a culture of accountability and high performance, setting clear expectations, tracking progress, and ensuring continuous improvement across all aspects of the museum’s operations.
