Volunteer Services Coordinator/ Recreation

We are looking for a dedicated Volunteer Services Coordinator/ Recreation Facilitator (Rest Home) to join our team. This is a split position.
The Volunteer Services Coordinator shall be responsible for assessing the Volunteer requirement throughout all departments of the Home, recruiting volunteers to fill these positions and to follow up to ensure that needs are being met. Recruitment, orientation, placement and evaluation of the Volunteer Service are all components of this position.
**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. To determine volunteer requirements of the home by meeting with departmental supervisors and talking with staff.
2. To check that position descriptions for volunteers are up to date and to write details of any new position descriptions, as necessary. To make these descriptions available to the Program Services Manager for approval before implementing.
3. Is responsible for the recruitment of volunteers from within the home, community and from volunteer centers in the community.
4. To plan and coordinate the orientation, continuing education, annual mandatory training, and support for all volunteers.
5. To coordinate volunteers work schedules as required by the various departments. To provide updated information to the department supervisors as applicable.
6. To coordinate recognition of volunteers and of staff in consultation with the Program Services Manager.
7. To provide intervention and diplomatic corrective direction when required both with problematic volunteers and/or staff treatment of volunteers.
8. To provide comprehensive reports of volunteer activities including monthly volunteer hours, annual volunteer feedback evaluations (Form 150-113) and quarterly volunteer activity including areas identified for improvement with action plans. Periodic verbal reports to the Program Services Manager re: progress of the Volunteer Program.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
Must be able to cope with flexible hours as related to job duties such as sporadic volunteer interviews, evaluations and orientations. Ability to manage challenges related to dealing with staff or volunteer demands, suggestions and problems. Must be able to use time management skills for all related duties. During pandemic or outbreak, may be assigned to other duties if the volunteer program is placed on hold.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
1. A diploma/degree in recreation/social services or gerontology.
2. Must possess a pleasant personality and the ability to work with others.
3. Must possess good organizational skills.
4. Previous experience working with volunteers is an asset.
5. Must possess good communication skills both oral and written.
6. Must be able to work independently with mínimal direction.
7. Knowledge of Senior Citizens needs and condition is an asset.
8. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

9. Ongoing personal development including mandatory elements.
10. Degree to which communication skills are practiced in the delivery and receipt of information from the health team, residents, families, volunteers, visitors, practitioners and community partners.
11. Demonstrated commitment to the Continuous Quality Improvement program
12. Degree to which Compliance with Ministry of Health Program Standards and Criteria and applicable legislation is met
13. Ability to problem solve and affect positive change in the home.
14. Degree to which safe and conscientious practices are demonstrated with respect for residents, family and team members.
15. Degree to which initiative is demonstrated to participate in teams, committees and departmental meetings.
16. Degree to which personal annual objectives are achieved.
17. Degree to which policy and procedures are followed as communicated.
18. Mandatory education is required annually.
The Recreation Facilitator performs duties as delegated by the Program Services Manager and provides input into the organization of programs. Leads both group and individual programs. Participates in the planning and evaluation of the Recreation/leisure programs as an integral part of the Program Service Team.
