The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program, is an innovative approach to child and family support which leverages a network of partner agencies and Children’s Services to create customized support for children, youth, and families in North East Edmonton.

Ubuntu offers a continuum of culturally aligned, community-based, family and child centered services. Collectively, with Boyle Street as the lead agency, Ubuntu is one point of access to a streamlined set of services that leverages the expertise of five networks to meet the needs of our families, children, and youth. Entitled the C5 (Collaborative Five) - Ubuntu works collaboratively with Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, and Terra Centre for Teen Parents.

**This position is based out of the C5’s North East Hub - 14023 Victoria Trail**

**JOB PURPOSE**:
The Ubuntu CSD (Collaborative Service Delivery) Program is seeking a Family Connections Facilitator; an integral role on the team responsible for working with families and youth to help them to create a safe and healthy household, to model parenting skills, develop healthy family relationships and boundaries, and to provide fully engaging family time visits. Family Connections Facilitators strive to build a family’s capacity with an emphasis on community and cultural involvement, and helping connect families and youth to long term supports in their communities.

**KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**:

- Build trusting relationships with family members and spend focused time in the home to work towards reaching the service plan (titled Children’s Services Planning Form or CSPF) goals
- Provide strength-based feedback on parenting and discipline and offer suggestions for effective parenting and positive discipline techniques
- Address safety concerns by providing coaching on stress and anger management
- Provide coaching on household management, cleaning, nutrition and meal planning, grocery shopping
- Work with the Family Support Worker to locate and connect family members to local community resources that will continue to support the family in the long term
- Provide transportation to and from various appointments, as scheduled or as necessary
- Advocate on behalf of families and empower families to advocate for themselves to community agencies to help families meet their needs
- Support fully engaging family time visits between parents and their children
- Build positive relationships with children, families, the North East Child and Family Services Neighborhood Office staff, and multi-disciplinary partners to better support families
- Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating the values of accountability, reliability, respect, and creativity
- Participate in on-call services on a rotation basis
- Maintain accurate records, files, and documentation to track outcomes

- Ability to work in a highly stressful and ever-changing environment
- Must have excellent boundaries
- Mental resiliency is key
- Strong relationship building skills and ability to work as a part of a team
- Knowledge of where to access affordable goods and services for the home, and of resources for children and families in North East Edmonton
- Trained to provide home services such as parenting skills, cultural teachings, life skills, etc.
- Strength based approach to supervising and motivating families
- Ability to work with children and families from a range of cultures, additional languages to English would be an asset
- Understanding of early child development
- Ability to have difficult but respectful and ultimately constructive conversations with team members

**Experience and Other Requirements**:

- Minimum 2 years’ working with families experience conducting home visits and case management
- Understanding of Children and Family services and guiding legislation
- Understanding of the Alberta’s Residential Tenancies Act (Landlord-Tenant Act)
- Knowledge of and experience with Indigenous and multicultural communities
- Knowledge of and experience working with community resources in North East Edmonton
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Development, Toxic Stress, and the Social Determinants of Health
- An understanding of poverty, racism, and marginalization and how and why it impacts those we serve
- ** Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector check), and Child and Youth Intervention Check, competed within the last 6 months, must be acquired prior to start date.** Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks. Results will be reviewed on a case
