About Us:
Paper Planes Cafe is a social enterprise cafe that provides opportunities for neurodiverse job seekers to gain meaningful work experience. Through our 3-6 month training program, trainees learn valuable skills to help them transition into permanent employment.
Position Overview:
As the Autism Inclusion & Cafe Operations Assistant you
will play a vital role in supporting and training neurodiverse trainees. Your
primary focus will be to create an inclusive and supportive work environment,
providing hands-on coaching and mentorship. Additionally, you will be
responsible for scheduling and overseeing the trainees' daily activities while
learning and managing cafe operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Training and Coaching: Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to neurodiverse
trainees, helping them develop work skills and confidence in the cafe
setting.
Scheduling:
Create and manage schedules for baristas, ensuring proper staffing and a
balanced workload. Ensuring labor costs are kept at an appropriate level.
Learning
Cafe Operations: Learn all aspects of cafe operations, including food
preparation, customer service, and health and safety protocols, placing orders,
inventory management.
Supporting
Trainees: Monitor trainees' progress and provide feedback, support, and
encouragement to help them achieve their goals.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Employment Team to ensure the successful delivery of the
training program.
Fostering
Inclusion: Create an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and
encourages collaboration among trainees and staff.
**Requirements**:
- Experience supporting autistic individuals in the workplace or having lived
experience with neurodiversity.
- Relevant coaching experience, particularly with neurodiverse individuals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn cafe operations; prior cafe experience is as asset
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- A compassionate and patient approach to working with neurodiverse
individuals.
