**Job Summary**
- The Department of Oceanography is proud to be the only Oceanography department in Canada to offer all primary areas in oceanography - physical, biological, chemical and geological. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Departmental Administrator will manage the non-academic functions of the department in support of teaching and research, including financial management and administrative operations.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Manage the department’s financial operations. This includes but is not limited to the annual budget as well as overseeing operating and special accounts; analyzing budget variances; and establishing fee structures and ensuring fee recovery for internal and external users of departmental services and materials.
- Under the authority of the Chair, manage the Oceanography wing of the Life Sciences Centre, including regular maintenance, repairs, security, and adherence to safety regulations and practices for this physical space. This includes planning work with architects, estimators and project managers to ensure accurate scope of work and budget.
- Oversee all aspects of funding of graduate students. Advise graduate students on policies and regulations, both departmental and university.
- Manage NSGEU staff as well as oversee all administrative functions within the department to ensure services are maintained to sustain excellence in teaching, research and administration. Advise researchers on hiring, discipline, discharge, and other personnel issues related to research staff, consulting People and Culture as appropriate.
- Oversee administrative processes for the department including but not limited to submissions for undergraduate and graduate calendars, timetables, exam schedules, and teaching evaluations; and data collection and review.

**Note**
- The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such Science or Business Administration plus approximately three to five years related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Human resources and managerial experience as well as accounting and financial management skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills while working in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- High level of computer proficiency.
