**Production Lead Hand**
**Don Park** **Manufacturing Inc**., a leading manufacturer of HVAC products with a 40 year history as a respected manufacturer, is currently looking for a **Production Lead Hand. **This position exists to work collaboratively with the Production Supervisor to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the Production department. Lead Hand’s main role is to lead the production team in the most effective way to ensure our ability to meet customer demands and expectations. This position supports the supervision of all employees and their daily tasks; conducts training, coaching; and supports employees in meeting production targets. This position ensures all stations have the required materials and that machine operations are setup in the most efficient and effective way possible.
**The key responsibilities for this position include**:
- Working with the supervisor to set up and assign the daily production by machine and by staff for the production area based on scheduling
- Actively participating in the start of shift meetings
- Evaluating order sheets every morning and planning work accordingly for function; entering daily plan in production planning software system
- Working with the planning priority list and scheduling planned or unplanned changeovers, in the most efficient way possible
- Ensuring all employees/stations are supplied with required materials for daily production needs; raw material and packaging products; also planning ahead to supply for future production; with the help of the clerk
- Acting as front-line people lead for employees and actively participating in staffing decisions
- Contributing to the performance management process for production employees
- Communicating shift production plan to afternoon shifts; through cell leader
- Monitoring production and regularly completing tours of the production area; troubleshooting, as required
- Communicating production to management
- Maintaining strong on-going communications with all employees and creating a positive and productive working environment
- Working on production when production needs dictate, when employees are absent or when all other tasks are completed
- Focusing on continuous improvement; maximizing productivity while reducing waste and inefficiencies with machines and people processes
- Assisting/supporting supervisors in leadership functions such as coaching, supporting, motivating, recognizing, performance management and supervising employees in their work; and addressing with people issues; escalating significant issues to the attention of the supervisor
- Ensuring quality standards are met by the whole department by systematically inspecting samples of all products
- Checking for status of products to be received or for location of needed products in Oracle
- Taking over some duties of the supervisor in their absence
- Dealing with problems/troubleshooting any problems or discrepancies regarding production (i.e. machine malfunctions, quality issues, people issues, etc.), report anything significant to supervisor or go directly to supervisor if problem is important enough
- Following all rules, policies and procedures while operating lift truck to ensure your personal safety and the safety of others around you; completing start-of-shift lift truck safety inspection checklist
- Following all safety rules/practices and policies pertaining to safety, including, but not limited to, wearing all required PPE and doing exercises and stretches at assigned times, and ensuring all employees of the division do the same; reporting all accidents, near misses, potential hazards or problems to production supervisor
- Maintaining, and ensuring all of the department’s employees maintain a clean and safe work area, and contributing to overall plant safety and cleanliness
- Performing all other duties assigned by production supervisor
**The types of qualifications needed for this job include**:
- Having experience as laborer in high pace production environment and having direct experience in manufacturing would be a definite asset
- Being a proven front line leader and having ability to lead and motivate a team of employees
- Having a proactive approach towards work and continuous improvement
- Having a high school diploma or equivalent would be a definite asset
- Having a high level of prioritizing, job/task planning and organizing abilities
- Having strong multi-tasking, decision-making and critical thinking abilities
- Being bilingual would be a definite asset
- Being able to tolerate some level of stress and to deal with fast pace and high and/or changing work/products demands; flexibility and adaptability
- Having supervisory experience would be a definite asset
- Having good ability and knowledge of computers and technology
- Having demonstrated ability to follow safe work practices
