Accounting Assistant

Under the Direction of the Finance Director, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for performing daily accounting tasks that will support our financial team. This includes managing expense reports and reimbursements, entering financial transactions into our internal databases and reconciling invoices, etc.
**This is a funded position therefore applicants must be the following criteria as per SWEP requirements**:
- First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive;
- ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands;
- legally entitled to work in Canada; and
- registered as full-time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
**Required Qualifications/ Educations/ Experience/ Skills**
- Computer literacy and skills in Xyntax System, Simply Accounting, Excel, MS Word and other Accounting Software/Databases.
- Excellent time management, organizational, planning and analytical skills.
- Possesses strong ethical standards, work ethic, and highly motivated.
- Ability to work in a team geared, cultural and politically sensitive environment.
- Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and to work under pressure.
- Ability to be flexible and to work in an environment that applies cross-training within other Departments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain Confidentiality and abide by Cheam First Nations’ Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó: lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, must be bondable.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Accounting Functions: _
- Assist with the preparation and post-year-end adjusted entries.
- Analyze account details and reconcile the accounts.
- Assist with accounts payable/accounts receivable.
- Maintain an effective financial record keeping system.
- Prepare supporting information for annual audit engagements.
- Reporting Functions: _
- Monthly Financial Report Inclusions: Bank reconciliations, financial statements of all bank accounts, AR/AP reports, and draft department-specific reports.
- Other government agency reports (WCB, CRA etc.)
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Manager, Director, or the Cheam Executive Director
- Other tasks as may be determined by the supervisor. (filing, photo copying for other staff)

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
**Salary**: $17.65 per hour
