Quality and Food Safety Specialist

As Quality and Food Safety Specialist, you will manage pet food compliance for the North American market. You will also lead on quality control to ensure standards are met on a continuous basis. You will manage and direct the day-to-day activities of the company’s food quality management operations ensuring that new product development and existing product range meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
The successful applicant must have up-to-date knowledge and experience relating to food safety and quality as well as regulatory compliance in pet food or human food.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Manage Hagen group routine product testing program. Monitor and coordinate laboratory testing domestically and internationally. Compile, record, and dashboard results.
- Coordinate with product development team to ensure new products meets compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Manage food vendor relations as they pertain to quality: vendor approval, technical documentation, testing, and resolve quality issues.
- Manage 3rd party analysis reports, general certificates of conformity and 3rd party factory audit reports. Keep records and write up reports showing the results of inspections.
- Lead vendor approval of international pet food vendors in North America in compliance with Canadian Import Policy for Pet Food and Treats and US Food Safety Modernization Act Foreign Supplier Verification Program.
- Collaborate with and support global quality team on regulatory compliance and standardize the quality management system globally.
- Keep abreast of compliance changes and trends affecting our company's products.
- Collect data that will be used to participate in quality management meetings.
- Investigate issues regarding product quality, warranty and liability statement, customer complaints or any other product issues and work with third party factory personnel to resolve these issues.
- Respond to requests from internal and external customers regarding the conformity of a product in terms of its characteristics, performance, and resolve quality issues.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements**:
- Minimum of 3 years of job experience in the safety and quality of pet food, consumer goods or human food.
- B.Sc. Food Science, Nutrition, or equivalent experience; M.Sc. Food Science or Food Safety an asset
- Well Organized and ability to multi-task and work under mínimal supervision.
- Ability to collaborate with others across all functional areas and communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization.
- Experience maintaining and updating SOPs and standards as they pertain to Quality Management System and HACCP program.
- Food facility auditing, knowledge of FSMA FSVP and experience managing product information database is an asset.
- Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English; proficiency in French is an asset.
