**Payroll & Benefit Specialist**
**Location: Montreal, Quebec or US (Maine, New Hampshire or Philadelphia)**
We are seeking a Payroll Specialist who will be responsible for administering the company’s payrolls, and benefits program (Canada, US). You will act as the main point of contact for both employees and external vendors regarding benefits and payroll questions and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Reporting to the Group VP HR, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring the efficient administration and will manage the full cycle of both the Canadian and US payroll as well as administering the employee benefits.
**Responsibilities**:
- Responsible for processing multiple payroll using applicable laws, regulations and company policies.
- Responsible for full cycle bi-weekly payroll for employees in Canada and some entities in the US (multiple sites/states and provider)
- Resolve issues or discrepancies with payroll data
- Process new hires, terminations, salary adjustments and responding to inquiries on benefits
- Keep on track of all payroll deadlines and monthly payroll tasks
- Assist with future expansions of global payrolls and other projects
- Manage all payroll correspondence and act as a point of contact for all escalated payroll queries
- Build strong relationships with vendors to ensure excellent service delivery and compliance in all countries
- You use Excel with expertise and can demonstrate how to construct complex formulas, calculations and reports
- You have a deep understanding of the federal and state laws governing payroll, taxes, and employment
- You have effectively used several payroll systems
- Create and execute routine reports related to the payroll system.
- Administer group benefits, queries and reports for Canada and entities in the US (Group Insurance, RRSP, 401K and taxable benefits)
- Plan and administer different employee benefit programs as well as work anniversary and annual awards celebrations,
- Calculate and submit the 1% Training Investment Act
- Report work report incidents to the CNESST
- Coordinate RRSP sessions between the employee and the plan advisor as needed
- Submit employee contributions to the RRSP plan
- Comply with GDPR regulations and maintain payroll security/confidentiality
**Required skills and competencies**:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or a related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with Canadian payroll
- Experience in US payroll processing with working knowledge of US tax withholding regulations
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax and CNESST labor regulations
- Highly discreet when dealing with sensitive employee payroll and benefit matters
- Organized, efficient, with the ability to handle multiple tasks
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English and French
- Knowledge of Excel Pivot Tables
- Ability to efficiently organize work activities to meet daily and weekly deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task with a strong attention to detail.
- Intermediate to strong skills in MS Office, including Excel and Outlook
- You are naturally organized, analytical and detailed-oriented
- You listen carefully and ask relevant follow-up questions
The role requires both verbal and written communication in English with employees in the US and in French with employees in Canada. In addition, regular communication with US vendors regarding topics such as 401K and group insurance will require fluency in English.
**Salary**: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
