**The Role**:
As a Human Resources Specialist Payroll and Benefits, you will be the primary point of contact for payroll and benefits-related matters in Canada and will contribute to the smooth running of these critical business processes for our three group companies, which total approximately 100 employees. In this role, you will also provide operational and project support to Canadian employees and Human Resources, and assist Global Human Resources on various payroll and benefits-related matters.
**What you'll do**:
- As the primary contact for payroll and benefits in Canada, you'll respond to inquiries from managers and employees regarding payroll concerns, plan provisions, benefits enrollment, insurance requests, deductions, status changes, and other general questions.
- You will enter, maintain, and/or process employee information, including hirings and terminations, position changes, employee hourly rates or wages, commissions, bonuses, or other compensation, holidays, garnishments, deductions, and withholdings, as well as changes of address or other information, into payroll systems accurately and in a timely manner.
- You will determine benefits eligibility and process enrollments, changes, and terminations, while providing required documentation through payroll and insurance providers to ensure proper recordkeeping and deductions. You will maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefit changes are properly entered into the payroll system for payroll deductions.
- You will process biweekly payroll according to the company's payroll calendar, ensuring proper processing of tax deductions, benefits, garnishments, and other deductions. You will issue, or reissue, replacement checks or direct deposits, and/or perform off-cycle payrolls due to payroll errors, lost checks, or employee terminations.
- You will review and respond to unemployment insurance claims with appropriate documentation. You will verify the accuracy of monthly unemployment insurance statements.
- You will administer various employee benefit programs (i.e., group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, RSP). You will facilitate the accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to providers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers, and reconcile monthly benefit statements for payment.
- You will process and administer all leave requests and disability-related paperwork: medical, disability. You will calculate missed benefit deductions for employees on leave and develop reimbursement plans upon the employee's return.
- You will support the annual benefits renewal process by providing employee census and other demographic data needed to obtain accurate quotes from benefits providers. You will propose creative solutions and recommendations for plan changes to better support our employee population.
- You will coordinate the annual open enrollment process, distribute all benefits enrollment materials, and conduct meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. You will conduct benefits orientation sessions for new employees.
- You will ensure the distribution of required notices to employees. You will advise and inform employees of changes and developments related to benefits, including eligibility, coverage, and provisions.
- You will complete records, reports, and other documents as needed to ensure compliance with federal and local payroll, wage and hour, and benefits laws and best practices.
