**Nature and Scope**

The Cultural Coordinator focuses on supporting learners, clients, and employees through the implementation and coordination of culturally focused activities and initiatives at SIIT. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

**General Accountability**

The Cultural Coordinator acts as a primary resource to SIIT in its development and enhancement of cultural services. The Cultural Coordinator is responsible for delivering capacity building activities, coordinating project programs, and events, promoting campus culture, as well as, developing and providing educational sessions and workshops. The Coordinator will also be responsible for active and ongoing engagement of and support for learners, clients, and employees. The Coordinator also provides general oversight of Elders and Knowledge Keepers and the planning of participation and engagement in SIIT campus culture.

In consultation with the Campus Supports Manager, the Coordinator will help establish practices and systems that support learner access and success. In addition, the Coordinator acts as an external liaison to build community relationships, bringing cultural and community experts into the Institute for collaboration. This position will ensure that systems and environments are provided and in place in order to assist SIIT's population. Centered on principles of holistic student development and inclusivity, the Coordinator works toward student success and community within Residence, while meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse student population. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:
***Specific Accountabilities**

**_ Client Service_**
- Provide cross-cultural information and/or training across the Institute to preserve and promote traditional practices
- Educate and counsel on cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity and competencies
- Serve as an information source to SIIT learners, clients, and employees, as well as, provide resources to ensure cultural knowledge and practices are maintained
- Build and maintain relationships with our Indigenous community members and partners
- Assist Instructors and Facilitators in establishing consistent, culturally relevant, service delivery
- Provide relevant, competent, cultural support services, providing referrals when required
- Ensure services or coordination of services are delivered with excellence and align with SIIT's strategic priorities
- Engage appropriate parties at SIIT to ensure adequate coordination of cultural services and attainment of SIIT cultural and service objectives

AdministrationCoordination_**
- Contribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by representing and participating on internal and external committees as required
- Work collaboratively to ensure culturally appropriate program development and delivery
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of Elders for SIIT
- Plan, organize, and coordinate campus events, cultural workshops, programming and activities, teachings, ceremonies and healing practices
- Assist in obtaining the necessary supplies, equipment or funds to facilitate culturally based functions
- Prepare reports as required, summarizing current activities and future planning
- Review SIIT Policies and Procedures to ensure the provision of culturally appropriate services
- Ensure promotion of cultural resources at SIIT and externally
- Plan, develop, and participate in special projects as required
- Lead or participate in traditional or spiritual practices for meetings or cultural activities as required
- Implement events and activities to enrich the campus experience for SIIT students
- Function cooperatively and autonomously, developing priorities based on the goals of the department
- Maintains an updated student activity calendar
- Creates student events and activities that are educational, social, cultural and cognizant to SIIT's diverse group of students and faculty

**Required Qualifications and Experience**: Relevant bachelor's degree (preference in area of Indigenous Studies) with a minimum of 3 to 6 years of experience working in community-based organizations or in the human services field.
