**Indigenous Cultural Coordinator**:
**Primary Purpose**: The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator is an important part of the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre team. The coordinator will be responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of cultural programming for the Centre. The coordinator will work in close collaboration with Centre staff, university and community partners. They will be responsible for the coordination of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, who will provide cultural and spiritual support to the Centre and campus partners. In addition, the coordinator will assist in the coordination of cultural, artistic and scholarly presentations, performances, and events within the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre. As a member of the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre Team, the coordinator will help with the various programs, services and events organised by the centre each year.

The coordinator supports the work of Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Cultural Resource Providers. They will maintain a database of support people and ensure these relationships are well-maintained and will ensure the Centre is providing access to cultural teachings which are reflective of the diversity of the Indigenous people in our community.

**Nature of Work**:The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator reports to the Director of Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre. The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre is dedicated to Indigenous student academic and personal success. The centre provides First Nations, Métis and Inuit students with individual, social, cultural, and academic supports through various programs, services and events held throughout the regular session. An important aspect of this work is creating a welcoming and safe community for all students to feel a sense of belonging and supported at the centre.

To be successful in this role, the Indigenous Cultural Coordinator requires a high level of collaboration, relationship-building, and engagement with a variety of university partners to effectively maintain our Indigenous cultural engagement strategy. The coordinator will also need to exercise discretionary decision-making and establish effective working relations with internal partners and stakeholders.

Regular working hours of the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday. However, this position requires some flexible scheduling that allows for some availability on evenings and/or weekends. Working hours can be adjusted and time-in-lieu accrued.

**Accountabilities**:
**Culture**:

- Developing, implementing, and assessing cultural programming specifically for the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre.
- Coordination of Elders, Knowledge and Story Keepers within Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre programs, services and events who are reflective of the cultural diversity found within Saskatchewan.
- Coordination of cultural programing on behalf of the centre, including but not limited to smudging, pipe ceremonies, sweat ceremonies, and other cultural ceremonies, programs, events and celebrations dedicated to supporting the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre and Indigenous students.
- Represent the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre at different university events when required.

**Special Events**:

- Leads in the organization of cultural, artistic, and scholarly presentations, performances and events within the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre.
- To help in the organization of major Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre events, such as Indigenous Achievement Week and the Métis New Years Celebration.

**Other**:

- As a member of the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre Team, the coordinator will also support the various programs, services and events organised by the centre each year.

**Qualifications**

**Education**: A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Experience**:

- Three or more years of experience in coordination of Métis and First Nations ceremonies and events including specialized knowledge of cultural protocols; familiarity with academic ceremonies, traditions, and protocols would be considered an asset.
- Experience in dealing with diverse groups of organizations and peoples particularly students and Indigenous communities and partners.
- Proven understanding of university administrative structures, Indigenous governance systems and educational support programs.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for outreach and engagement of higher education with diverse communities; knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan, the province, and Indigenous peoples is essential.
- Excellent organization, planning and time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Saskatchewan driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
