**Student Development Coordinator**:
**Primary Purpose**: To coordinate educational, personal, and group development activities for Indigenous students (including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) at the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre. Student success is supported through the provision of personal support, group programming, cultural supports, events, and student engagement activities.
**Nature of Work**: The Student Development Coordinator reports to the Director and is a part of the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre team.
The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre is dedicated to Indigenous student academic and personal success and is committed to supporting Indigenous student transition, retention, and graduation by providing Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students with personal, social, and cultural supports through programs, services, and events. The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre also works in collaboration with colleges/units and other partners to provide academic supports to students at the Centre. Working in close partnership with the university, Indigenous communities and other stakeholders, the Centre will take a lead role in the development of an integrated and effective system of personalized student services that not only supports Indigenous students from prospective student to graduate, but also improves the overall quality of the student experience. This position is a key member of this team.
The Student Development Coordinator will collaborate with the Director to develop, implement, and assess the Centre’s Indigenous student development strategy. An effective strategy will be proactive, collaborative, and holistic (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) in its approach to individual support services and group programming and will build on a student’s capacity to meaningfully engage in educational opportunities at the university. The focus is on support for first year students.
**Accountabilities**:
- The coordinator will work in close collaboration with the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre team, to support the students through out their academic journey.
- The Student Development Coordinator will encourage and refer Indigenous students to utilize the support services offered by other Teaching Learning and Student Experience (TLSE) units, including, but not limited to, Student Affairs and Outreach, Student Wellness Centre, Access, and Equity Services, as well as services offered by colleges and other units.
- The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre works within a community of support. The coordinator will work with TLSE units, colleges, and community partners into the services and programs offered by the Centre to support student development.
- Working with Indigenous students or through coordinated support groups to define and clarify their objectives; discover their educational goals; and develop and implement a workable plan to achieve these objectives.
- Using a holistic approach to student development, the coordinator facilitates programming already in place (personal, social, cultural, academic).
- Creating and implementing the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre Newsletter to go out to all self-declared Indigenous students.
- Support the Director and the team in organizing and leading coordination of the Indigenous Achievement Week, Cultural programming, the First Year Indigenous Student Welcome, and other events.
- Evaluate program activities and yearly reporting.
- Other assigned duties.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**: A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. or equivalent training and experience would be an asset.
**Experience**: A minimum of two years of related experience. A knowledge of diverse Indigenous social, cultural, and economic issues particularly in the context of Canada’s Prairie Provinces and an understanding of the barrier’s students face completing their postsecondary education. Experience as a life skills coach in an educational environment is preferred including one-on-one and group facilitation experience. Experience with planning, delivering, and assessing programming or initiatives. Familiarity with First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, and a demonstrated willingness to facilitate diverse cultural activities to meet the needs of our students.

**Salary**: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $52,050.00 - 81,328.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
